APC holds peaceful congress in Abia

The rescheduled local government congress of the All Progressive Congress took place on Monday in Abia, with16 out of the 17 Local Government areas experiencing no violence.

The State Congress Coordinator, Sunday Akere, said that there were disruptions in Umuahia South Congress “over who should vote and who should not vote”.

Akere said that the issue was later taken to the Police Area Command in Umuahia for resolution.

He said that the results of the exercise from the other local government areas were being awaited.

The outgoing Publicity Secretary of the party, Ben Godson, said the exercise was successful in Ukwa East Local Government Area.

He described the exercise as “generally peaceful” in his area, saying that the outcome of the congress across the state was still being collated at the party secretariat.

The congress, which was initially slated for Saturday, was rescheduled for Sunday and later moved to Monday.
