Michelle Obama Turns 50, Plans to Dance 'a Little Dougie'

U.S. first lady Michelle Obama has turned 50 and will celebrate on Saturday with a birthday bash.

Mrs. Obama spent her birthday Friday out of sight, with no public appearances. She will, however, be the center of attention at a White House party.

Details of the event have been closely guarded, but guests say they have been told there will be dancing.

The first lady tweeted a picture of herself on Friday holding up a card from AARP, an organization that lobbies on behalf of people who are over 50 years old.The first lady received an early birthday present from her husband, President Barack Obama -- time alone without the demands of children.

Mrs. Obama remained for an extra week in the Pacific island state of Hawaii, where the family had a two-week vacation over the Christmas holiday.

First Lady At Getting Older:

‘I Don’t Feel Much Differently’

The First Lady recently opened up to People about the big milestone, saying that she didn’t really feel much different.

“There are those times when your staff tell you they were born the year you were graduating from college. It’s like really, really? Really? That hurts,” she laughed. “But I don’t feel much differently than I did when I was younger. My message to women is to be healthy.”

On that note she was asked if she could be doing anything in 20 years, what it would be. “There’s this book we had on our coffee table of the 100 most beautiyfl places in the world. I thought one day, ‘I wante to lok at a spot and say, ‘Let’s go!’” she told the mag. “I want to see the places that make this planet beautiful. Many of those are right here in this country.”

Happy Birthday, Michelle!

God has been too good to me" - Newly wed Toke Makinwa shares her first "Mrs" photo

After dating on and off for 12 good years, Media personality Toke Makinwa and Maje Ayida have finally gotten married.

The longtime lovers got married quietly on Wednesday January 15th at a registry in Lagos, with only a few family members and friends in attendance. It actually took Toke Makinwa's dumping him and he, Maje whining like a baby, alongside the social media drama to get him do the right thing.
Maje felt miserable about the break-up. And to get his one and true love with him forever, he ensured that he popped the big question and tied the knot as soon as possible.
How Maje secretly planned the wedding:
Maje Ayida had planned with a popular magazine to invite Toke Makinwa to Lagos Island for a photo shoot. The magazine played its role very well, got Toke to the hotel where she was dressed up, she was fitted into this 'wedding' dress, her hair and make-up was done.

Then they moved her to the 'photoshoot' venue. It was at the photoshoot venue that Toke met Maje Ayida, her sister and the people from the registry who came to officiate the wedding already waiting there. They both cried and embraced and Toke accepted his ring, whoop!

The newly wed now live in Lekki, with a cook and driver at Toke’s beck and call.Anyways, check out the newest photo of Mrs Toke Makinwa-Ayida and her words of appreciation:

Our skit wasn’t to hurt Jim Iyke –Helen Paul

Jim Iyke had commented on the skit which
also featured Helen Paul, saying,

“People cross the lines sometimes for relevance. It disappoints if it comes from people you deemed to have self respect. Classless.”

But reacting to the actor’s misgivings, Helen said the skit was just a joke and not necessarily meant to hurt Jim Iyke even as the video has gone viral.

“It is just a joke. I am an actress and a senior colleague called me for a job. I was given the script and I acted my part. We did not mean to hurt Jim Iyke. In the skit, I was portrayed as a prostitute but that is not what Helen Paul is about,” she said.

She added that the alleged ‘deliverance’ was something that was talked about a lot and that was probably why he was mentioned in the skit. She emphasised that the skit was purely for humour purpose and not malicious in any way.

However, ace comedian, AY said he would not comment on the issue as he and Iyke are friends. Saturday Beats gathered that when the video went viral and the news broke early in the week, the comedian known for his hilarious skit contemplated on a response but later said that he and the actor were friends and would settle their differences like friends do.

Online commentators who found the joke as funny were quick to lash insults at Jim Iyke as they made it known that it was just a comedy skit and nothing serious.

The video had thousands of views on YouTube and Jim Iyke’s comment came a few weeks after the comedian’s channel was ranked as the number one most watched channel in Africa.

Supreme Court orders Mohammed Abacha’s retrial for theft

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the retrial of  Mohammed Abacha, son of the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha.
He had sought to stop the Federal Government from trying him for allegedly receiving and concealing stolen funds. The apex court ordered him to return to a Federal Capital Territory High Court, where the charges against him were filed.

The Federal Government had filed criminal charges containing 123 counts against Mohammed after stolen funds were traced to the family of the late military dictator. The charges filed against Mohammed bordered on conspiracy, receiving and concealing stolen property – in breach of provisions of the Penal Code.

However, even before taking his plea, Mohammed filed an appeal to challenge the Federal Government’s decision to try him.The Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal, after which he headed for the Supreme Court.

He argued that, according to the guidelines set out for the forfeiture of assets in Decree 53 of 1999, it would be unlawful to prosecute him, since the stolen money had been returned to the coffers of the Federal Government.

Section 5 of Decree 53 of 1999 prevented the prosecution of persons accused of stealing public funds, who had forfeited the said stolen funds to the government.

Decree 53 of 1999 was promulgated by the regime of General Abdulsalam Abubakar, and in compliance with the provisions of sections 2 and 3 of the law, the late Head of state and his family returned US$625,263,187.19, £75,306,886.93 and N100,000,000.00, while the accused person also returned N250,000,000.00.

The younger Abacha insisted that he had complied with Decree 53, and as a result of the compliance, he had acquired immunity from prosecution in relation to the stolen funds. He maintained that the charges filed against him before the FCT High Court breached the undertaking or promise stated in section 5 of Decree 53 – that there would be no prosecution as a result of the forfeiture.

However, in a unanimous decision, a panel of justices of the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the appeal, thereby clearing the way for the Federal Government to try him.

Justice Olukayode Ariwoola held that Mohammed should return to the FCT High Court to take his plea.

One of the arguments advanced by Mohammed in the appeal was that his father enjoyed immunity while in office, but the court held that, if the late Abacha were to be alive today, he would be liable for prosecution, as his immunity expired when he left office.

The apex court held that, in line with Decree 53, once a property has been shown to be corruptly or illegally acquired, its forfeiture to the government was automatic and not subject to the agreement or cooperation of the persons in possession of the said property, and as a result, such forfeiture cannot earn them indemnity against trial.

It spawned a couple of singles that did not crack the Billboard Top 10 including “Bound 2,” whose music video featured him dryhumping his fiancée Kim Kardashian on a motorcycle.

Desmond Tutu forms the world’s first gay political party.

As South Africa heads for nail-biting 2014 general elections Archbishop Desmond Tutu has pulled up a suprise by announcing the formation of a Gay political party called Democratic Religious Alliance Against Minority Antagonism (DRAAMA).

South African general election will be held on a date in April–July 2014 to elect a new National Assembly, as well as new provincial legislatures in each province. It will be the fifth quinquennial election held under conditions of universal adult suffrage since the end of the apartheid era in 1994.

“I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven… No, I would say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to hell… I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this.”

This is a statement from Nobel Peace Prize laureate and South African archbishop emeritus Desmond Tutu, who added that he does not believe religion provides justification for homophobia. His passion on the issue has led him to form the world’s first gay political party affectionately named ‘DRAAMA’, an acronym for Democratic Religious Alliance Against Minority Antagonism [D.R.A.A.M.A].

Tutu, who is one of the Western World’s most respected men and Christians, says the formation of his new political party was to redress the issue which he feels president Jacob Zuma ‘tiptoes’ around.

“The first and last time we ever heard president Jacob Zuma addressing issues around anti-homophobia was when he had to make a public apology regarding a damaging statement he made about this minority group,” Desmond Tutu told reporters.

In a media statement released this morning, DRAAMA is set to be at the forefront of minority human-rights issues the current ruling party has dragged its feet in addressing. True to its name, this is certainly not going to be your ordinary political party famous for making false promises. With gay socialite and choreographer Somizi Mhlongo being poached as the party’s spin doctor, South Africans should brace themselves for a lot of DRAAMA!!!
