As everyone awaits the result of the autopsy on the late Ronke Shonde, Saturday PUNCH has learnt that the report could be a shocker.
A source told Punch that the report, which will be out next week, might not go the way of public opinion.
Our correspondent had reported how Lekan, 51, allegedly beat his wife, Ronke, to death at their home in the Egbeda-Idimu area of the Lagos State last Thursday.
He was alleged to have shut the gate against the corpse and his two children.
The police from the Idimu division were said to have recovered the corpse by Friday morning after the landlady reported the case.
Lekan, a dockworker in Apapa, had fled and was reported to have travelled to Ondo State en route to Benin Republic before he returned to Lagos after much persuasion by friends.
The Abeokuta, Ogun State indigene, who spoke with our correspondent while in hiding, had denied complicity in the death.
He accused Ronke of sleeping with the general manager of a publishing company where she worked as the human resources manager.
After three days in hiding, the suspect gave himself up to officers of the Rapid Response Squad in Alausa, and was taken to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.
Punch correspondent, who visited the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, on Friday, learnt that the family had already been to the mortuary for some documentations.
A source said the autopsy would be released on Tuesday, adding that the result would be a shocker.
She said, “The police brought the corona form on Wednesday and the autopsy was conducted on Thursday. The report should be ready next week Tuesday. But the outcome will be a shocker to the world.”
It was learnt that Ronke’s family had postponed all plans for her burial till when the result was released.
A family source said she would be given a befitting burial.
He said, “Although this is a tragic incident, she will be given a befitting burial. Her church is expected to hold the service of songs for her next week when the report would have been out and the corpse released.”
Saturday PUNCH made effort to reach Ronke’s alleged lover, Kayode, on the phone, but he cut the call immediately he knew it was a journalist.
“Sorry Mr. Folarin, I cannot talk to you now,” he said and cut the call.
He had since been unreachable and did not respond to a text message sent to him on the matter.
Kayode is expected to report at the SDCI in the coming week to make statements to detectives handling the case.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the police were conducting investigations.
He said the police would not react to Ronke’s family reported forgiveness of Lekan.
