Top 5 Most Sold Shirt Names in 2013/14

5. Wayne Rooney
Manchester United are the most popular football team on the planet and while they may not be performing as well as they might have liked, they're still generating a lot of money. Rooney is arguably the most famous member of the United squad which is the reason for his high position on this list, but he's just been beaten by his team mate...

4. Robin Van Persie
While Rooney might be the most famous, van Persie has shown why he is arguably the most talented. The top scorer in the Premier League last season has caused fans across the planet to rush to get a van Persie shirt, but he's still not the most popular player in the Premier League...

3. Mesut Ozil
Mesut Ozil was the big transfer in English football over the summer just gone by. His £42.5 million move has meant a windfall in shirt sales and his impressive impact on the Premier League for Arsenal would have also played a big part.

2.  Lionel Messi
The main reason why Messi is second is most likely due to the signing of Neymar and the shirt sales he generates himself, while the player that is first (if you haven't guessed who it is yet) has not had as much competition in his team. The Argentine is still the best player in the world and that status will only continue to sell shirts for Barcelona.

1. Christiano Ronaldo
As aforementioned, it was always going to be a battle between Messi and Ronaldo. With Barcelona fans perhaps split between getting a Messi or Neymar shirt, that left Ronaldo to storm home with the honour of being the most popular name on the back of fan's shirts in world football this season.
