French President Macron spends $30,000 on make-up in 100 days

France’s President Emmanuel Macron ,39 has run up a make-up bill of $30,000 (€26,000) in his first 100 days in office, offering fresh ammunition to his critics.

The bill, revealed by Le Point magazine and confirmed by the presidency to AFP on Friday, was paid to a freelance make-up artist for work since the centrist took power in mid-May.

It recalled an embarrassing revelation about the balding former president Francois Hollande who was forced to admit to employing a private hairdresser on a pre-tax monthly salary of nearly €10,000 ($11,800).

Opponents seized on the total of the make-up bills — one for €10,000s and another for €16,000 — with most of the French media publishing stories about the issue.

“While France is slaving away, Macron is spreading (the equivalent of) 23 times the minimum wage on his face,” wrote far-right strategist Florian Philippot on Twitter.

A source in the presidency told BFM television that future costs would be “significantly reduced,” while claiming that both Hollande and former right-wing president Nicolas Sarkozy spent more on make-up.

A beauty writer in Britain’s The Telegraph newspaper offered some tips for some cheaper male cosmetics in an article entitled “How President Macron could save himself £8,000 on make-up a month.”

Many male politicians in the West wear foundation while making media appearances to counter the bleaching effect of studio lights or flash photography, as well as concealer to cover up signs of under-eye fatigue.

The leak to Le Point comes at a bad time for France’s youngest-ever president whose approval ratings have fallen sharply since his victory in May standing in his first ever election.

A recent poll showed that only 37 percent of French people were happy with his performance so far and he faces a tricky battle to ram through promised labour market reforms next month.

Earlier this month, Macron’s wife Brigitte, his former school teacher who is 25 years older than him, joked about the difficulties of living with her youthful husband during an interview with Elle magazine.

“The 20 years of age difference… it’s really nothing,” she said. “Of course, when we’re having breakfast, there’s me with my wrinkles and him looking fresh, but it’s like that

Honestly, being old has never really helped anyone- RMD writes

Veteran actor, Richard Mofe Damijo shared this cool photo, writing about the perks of being young at heart. He wrote
Being eternally young (at heart) comes with more perks than one. Apart from helping me better understand and relate with my children (biological and nonbiological), it makes the young people around me trust and open up to me more than they would if I came to them like "an old man" which suites me perfectly as the dynamics makes it easier for me to be an influence and make an impact in their lives, no matter how little.
Honestly, being old has never really helped anyone which is why I coined the phrase "Who-Old-Epp?". Yep, I said it, not just because I can but because I have lived long enough to know that age doesn't equate wisdom. I have encountered many "old fools" and I have interacted with many young people who are wise beyond their years.
Young people who are rounded and grounded in character, speech and carriage, those are my favourite type because as old as I am I learn from them which typically excites the teacher in me. This weekend, my dear friend Olusegun Adeniyi has invited me to talk to teenagers at a church event in Abuja and I am tickled in my spirit about these impressionable young men and women who I am about to encounter and positively rub off on in my own little way, so if you're a teenager in Abuja or have teenage friends and relatives please tell them to come through irrespective of religious affiliation, they can register FREE on rccgteapteens.org
Wisdom no know age, sex, religion or social status.

The popular Nollywood actrees, Funke Akindele, on Thursday, was surprised at her husband who came with her friends to their house without her knowledge to celebrate her birthday. She stood akimbo, watching surprisingly on what was going on. Funke celebrated her 41th birthday today.

Thursday, 25 May 2017

This week on CNN’s ‘African Voices’, Nigerian actress Funke Akindele talks through her career and why she’s focusing on the next generation of actors.

One of Nollywood’s biggest stars, Akindele has appeared in countless films and some of the biggest sitcoms in Nigeria. Despite starting acting as a young adult, ‘African Voices’ hears how she started out on a very different career path.

When Akindele was a child, her parents had differing opinions when it came to her acting dreams, as she tells CNN: “Growing up was fun for me having the support of my mum, she believed so much in my talent, though my dad never wanted me to be an actor – he wanted me to be a lawyer.”

‘African Voices’ hears how she compromised and agreed to study for a degree, eventually graduating in law. Following this, Akindele began auditioning for roles and had her big break when she was cast in one of the biggest sitcoms in Lagos, called ‘I Need To Know’.

Akindele describes the time: “When I started ‘I Need To Know’, I never thought I would be this celebrated. I was 20 years old then. When I shot the pilot I just wanted to do it, I wanted to showcase my God-given talent… I remember the director telling me I was overacting because I was excited about it.”

Akindele is best known for her portrayal of Jenifa, and she explains why the character has continued to appeal to audiences: “Jenifa is witty, she’s crazy, she’s a go getter, she doesn’t want to take no for an answer and I think I have that – I don’t want to take no for an answer.”

CNN hears that Akindele’s success as Jenifa led her to establish her own production company, Scene One Productions, as well as bringing many accolades, with her series receiving four awards since 2015.

Reflecting on this success Akindele tells the programme: “All I can say is I’m grateful, it’s not easy for you to work hard and people appreciate you.”

Now working on a new TV drama examining the music industry in Nigeria, called ‘Industreet’, Akindele has also founded ‘Jenifa’s Foundation’.

Explaining the programme’s work, she tells CNN: “We reach out to young people, we empower them. We help them acquire skills, we help them discover their special gift, their talent in acting and music and dance.”

When asked what her advice would be for upcoming actors and performers in Nigeria, Akindele tells the programme: “Stay focused. When you know what you want for yourself, when you are focused, you will get there.”

Actress Rita Dominic reveals why she is ye to be married

Nollywood actress, Rita Dominic has revealed why she is yet unmarried.
Rita, a veteran Nigerian actress was speaking in an interview with a lifestyle and fashion magazine, Schick, where she said that she could have been married a long time ago, but things didn’t work out.

The multiple award-winning actress, however, is hopeful that God will present the right man to her at the right time.
She said, “I believe that God is in charge of my life and will present the right man to me at the right time.”
When asked whether social pressure don’t get to her, Rita replied, “I am a human being and I would be lying to say that it doesn’t sometimes.

“More so because it’s something I sincerely want to do but the feeling passes when I remember that society will not live with the person.
“I will live with the man, so it is very important that I do it because I want to, not because society wants it for me.”
On the myth that sex, for women, gets better with age, Rita opined that sex at 40 is what you make of it.

“If you ordinarily don’t enjoy it, age won’t make a difference.
“I find that when a woman embraces her sexuality, many Nigerians equate it to being Ashewo, as if we should act like sex is not pleasurable.”
Rita described dating, as a nightmare, “especially in these days of social media where with one click you are all over the internet.”
Though she admitted that “I do date when someone special comes around.
“I love being totally drawn to someone and doing all those loving things couples do, but I am also wary of liars and bullies.‎”
