Musicians urged to promote Fela's message

Music lovers in Abuja on Thursday urged young artists to promote the message and lyrics of late Afro-beat music legend, late Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
The music lovers were reacting to the declining state of the Afrobeat music in Nigeria.
Some of them said in Abuja, said the current style of music by artists did not reflect the dynamism and uniqueness of the Afrobeat music.
According to Akin Akerere, the Nigeria entertainment industry needs to embark on a restoration project of Afrobeat music.
Akerere, who described Fela’s Afrobeat music as 'highly philosophical' urged upcoming artists to have a vision and take lead from the late Kuti to ensure that Afrobeat music was sustained.
"Infact every October, I usually remember and thank God for giving Nigeria a person like Fela Anikulapo Kuti.’’ he said
He said there should be more upcoming Afrobeat musicians who would use music to send the message that Afrobeat stood for and help address some societal issues.
"Musicians should help in addressing the challenges of the common man in the society. So I advise young and upcoming music talents to employ life changing lyrics in their songs,’’ Akerere said.
Austin Nwachukwu, a resident of Wuse 2, said Fela carved a niche for himself because of his brand of music which had originality and style.
However, Nwachukwu said Afrobeat was difficult, tasking and requires great skills and talents.

"With determination and consistency, other artists could excel in it,’’ he said.
On his part,  Frank Okpe of Karu District, Abuja, said Afrobeat music required real talents and hard work.
"Afrobeat music which is a fusion of jazz, highlife, funk is essentially the type of music that appeals to the mind and which broadens the creative minds of our youths,’’ Okpe said.
Fela Anikulapo Kuti, popularly known as Fela, was born on October 15, 1938, and died on August 2, 1997.
Apart from being the pioneer of Afrobeat music, he was also a multi-instrumentalist musician and composer.

Promoter wants national hero's immortalised through arts

An art and entertainment promoter, Jide Johnson, on Wednesday urged the federal and state governments to immortalise fallen heroes through the arts.
Johnson gave the advice  in Lagos against the backdrop of recent activities in honour of  the Afrobeat music maestro, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
He said that the use of art and music to tell African stories would propagate their philosophy and attract foreign investment.

Also read:Musicians urged to promote Fela's message
“We can only celebrate ourselves as Africans or as a people. We are the ones who can tell the world our own story. Art is life, music is life; Nigeria has one of the biggest exports of music in the world today and if not for people like Fela and other maestros, these things wouldn’t have been achieved. Fela, being a legend in Africa and for his struggles for the common man, it is just strategic for us to build his philosophy by exploitation of art, music, culture and tourism, all put together,’’ Johnson said.
According to him, many Nigerians erroneously take art as something to just put up in one’s room.
“Art is life and brings alive an experience. We are trying to achieve this, knowing that the man (Fela) was a maestro in music and then using the arts to bring this to life.’’ he added.
The art and entertainment promoter further advised government to harness the full potential in the industry as something to export to the outside world.

"People who know would confirm that I am a Fashion Icon"Kcee

Kcee has been evasive about his marital status but doesn't shy away from being called a fashion Icon or flaunting his wealth on social media...He told Saturday Beats
“I made people talk about my fashion sense; I started it. The truth is that in this industry, when you are quiet and you want people to talk about you, one can do anything. I started talking about my fashion sense on Instagram and for those that know me and follow me, they would confirm that I am a fashion icon. Nigerians feel that when you call yourself a fashion icon, you are being proud and that is why they were criticising my style. Each time I create such controversy, I gain about 2000 new followers; so I keep doing it.
On flaunting his wealth

I just like to express myself and that is why I flaunt what I have on social media, even the American celebrities do the same. If they buy new things or they are going anywhere, they put it on the social media. It is just a way of keeping the die-hard fans abreast of what we are doing. It is not a problem neither is it an issue but for those criticising it, I feel it is normal. No matter who you are on earth even if you are a pastor, people would criticise you. Even Christ was criticised, so who am I?”
On his status as a married man
“If I am married or not is for another day, not today. It is a discussion for another day. Anything you hear about the matter is for another day. The air has been cleared but it is an issue for another day,”
