Security officials prevent jobless graduate from committing suicide

An unemployed engineering graduate of Ekiti State University, Mr. Sunday Omotayo, was on Wednesday prevented from committing suicide by the police and prison officials.

Omotayo, who caused a stir along Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, when he deliberately jumped out of a speeding Toyota Hiace bus, expecting to be crushed to death by other vehicles, said he was tired of life as he had been searching for a job for the past 10 years after graduation.

Some policemen, who were on patrol at the time of the incident, told our correspondent that Omotayo had in the morning gone to the state prison asking the officials to either kill him or make way for him to rot in the prison.

A prison officer, who craved anonymity, told our correspondent that they saw him – well dressed and wearing a tie – running towards them. He added that his action forced them to become alert with their guns. He said, “The next thing he said was ‘shoot me, shoot me, I want to die, I am tired of this world’. He added that otherwise, we should allow him to enter and die inside the prison.”The official stated that Omotayo was later overpowered by the police, who counselled him and forced him into a bus heading towards the Ibom Plaza roundabout. An eyewitness, Mr. Effiong Bassey, said Omotayo jumped from the bus into the major road for other vehicles to run over him.

Lying on the main road leading to Akwa Ibom Government House, It took a while for policemen to get him out of the road. He insisted that he must put an end to his poverty-stricken life by committing suicide.Omotayo told PUNCH Metro, “There is no state that I have not gone to in search of a job in the past 10 years. I came to Akwa Ibom because this is my last hope because of the stories of Governor Godswill Akpabio and his uncommon transformation.“I came with the hope that with what is going on in the state, getting a job would be easy so that I can begin to be a man.

But since I came, I discovered that many people from Akwa Ibom are also crying because of poverty and joblessness.”The Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, Mr. Etim Dickson, promised to get back to our correspondent once he had confirmed the story from the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area.

Doris Simon taks 'Stella Damasus and Daniel Ademinokan' on a LIVE TV programme

Since Nollywood actress Doris Simeon's marriage to ace film-maker Daniel Ademinokan crashed about 2 years ago, she hasn't spoken much on what led to the breakup.
Recall Daniel had alleged at the time their marriage crashed that Doris didn't have time for the family and was always away at movie locations.
Over the weekend, while playing guest during a live TV program -  'Gbajumo Osere' for yoruba movie stars - one of Doris Simon's fans asked why her marriage crashed and if Stella is truly having an affair with Daniel.

In her response, Doris said:

"Only God knows what happened and is happening between them and he's the one who knows why it happened that way. I tried to make the marriage work but it may have been God's will for us to have parted like that. Like I said only God knows what is happening between them but it may be true since it is all over the media and sometimes media reports have some elements of truth. What is of utmost importance to ME now is my growth in the movie industry and my business ventures."

Film-maker, Frank Rajah Arase regrets introducing nudity into Ghollywood

The name Frank Rajah Arase rings a bell in Ghana as one of the best film-makers who have made great impact in the African movie industry. Although many think he is a Ghanaian due to his exploits in Ghollywood, Frank hails from Edo State in Nigeria and is happily married to a Nigerian.
In a recent interview with City People, he disclosed how much he now detests 'nudity in Ghanaian movies' and how he turned the likes of Van Vicker, Yvone Nelson, Jackie Appiah into celebrities.
"Well Heart of Men was actually my movie and we projected nudity in a very daring way. Before then, I got lots of mails from some of my foreign fans who said we love your movies but instead of creating love scenes where you have to put people under the blanket, take off those scenes but if you have to show the scenes, make it close to reality.
That was one flaw people saw in my movies so I was like lets try to make this happen and maybe the devil was at work that day because everybody just complied and we started shooting, it wasn’t planned and it was one of those 5 mins madness so we shot it and after that, it was like an open door for a lot of nudity in our movies and I felt terribly bad for pioneering it and I have since cautioned myself.
Till date I will never do movies with deep kisses talk more sex.I even had serious problems way back at home with my family over that movie, it was terrible and one of those hit movies I didn’t want people to always remember me with. Am doing my very best possible to create an image that people will see and not frown their faces. " he said.
He further disclosed how he turned the likes of Van Vicker,  Yvonne Nelson, Majid Michel into celebrities.
"...in Nigeria, you have the likes of Genevieve Nnaji, Rita Dominic and co, these are commercial faces and I want to create the likes of those in Ghana, I want to differentiate them so we can use them to sell movies here too. So I was like ok let’s sign a contract which we did for 2 years, and later I made it 4 years. The contract was to groom some actors in Ghana and make them stars, we agreed and called for audition, where we picked the likes of Jackie, Nadia Buari,Van Vicker, Kalsum Sinare, Kofi Adjorolo, Majid Michel was a stand by then.
After the audition, they were the characters I picked, so after picking them we took them through series of productions from Mummy’s Daughter to Beyonce and all of that. That was how the journey started and later on we brought on Majid and then Yvonne Nelson, Juliet Ibrahim, Frank Arthus, Martha Ankomah and just like that  we continued. That was how we started with all of them and today, they are big."

"Abacha was a caring husband..." - Maryam Abacha recounts her love story

Since her husband, Major General Abacha died in 1998; Mrs Maryam Abacha has been living a very quiet life, at first in Kano and now in Abuja.
However, in this interview with PM Newspaper, she spoke about her husband, how they met, his death and how she's been coping since then he died.

See excerpts below:

How has life been with you since the death of your husband?

We thank God for His kindness and love for us. We also thank those that have been around us in these moments of grief. We are still waiting for those that have distanced themselves from us to reconcile and come back. We are not angry with anybody. We are still friends to everybody. We look forward to the Almighty Allah to provide us the fortitude to bear this loss. So life has been quiet and peaceful with us. We are one and a happy family.

When you heard of his sudden death, how did you take it? How did you feel?

My husband’s death was like a coup. It was sudden and shrouded in confusion. General Abdulasalami [Abubakar] just called me, telling me to come and collect the dead body. We buried him like any other ordinary Nigerian. It was quite unfortunate the way he died. Allah knows best and unto Him we shall all return. May his soul rest in peace. I’m yet to fully recover from the shock of his death.
•Maryam Abacha
And how did you both meet?
Like any other would-be couple. He was a charming, handsome and likeable personality; a loving father who liked his children and loved ones. We became friends and got married. Here are pictures in the family album; before, during and after our wedding day. He was a caring husband, a dedicated father and an affectionate grandfather.

NOLLYWOOD OMOTOLA AND GENNY RECONCILE!

Fans of two of Nollywood’s biggest fishes; Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and Genevieve Nnaji, may lately be surprised that the two perceived arch rivals are now getting along with each other like never before. Even though both actresses have denied being enemies before now, sources close to them have severally confirmed to Nigeriafilms.com that the two really don’t too get along with each other.

It is true that the duo have acted in movies as sisters more than any other ‘rivals’ or actresses in Nollywood, but sources maintained to us that they only get along when they are in front of cameras but always return to status quo immediately after they get behind the cameras.

But recently, the two have been publicly telling the world that they are best of friends. First, it was at Ibinabo’s birthday held in Lagos in January. Also, at Omotola’s surprise birthday in March, they both got together.

At the last AMVCA, Omosexy and Genny, as both are fondly called, got along and even made jest of each other. The person behind all these is Ibinabo Fiberesima, the AGN president. Ibinabo has been instrumental in bringing these two heavyweights together. Like what she promised during her campaign period that she would unite Nollywood, our source said she has been working tirelessly to fulfil that promise. “A reconciliation meeting was held where Ibinabo appealed to both Omotola and Genevieve to embrace each other as sisters and not as colleagues,” our source said. Arik Air Locks Passengers (including Banky W) Inside Hot Aircraft For Hours

Passengers including music star Banky W on a New York bound Arik Air trip were subjected to untold hardship occasioned by delays in checking in and excruciating heat after boarding the aircraft.

They locked them inside the hot plane and did not take off....it was hot, the kids were stripped of their clothing and some adults collapsed till the people rose up to protest inside the locked aircraft.
After enduring the airline's shenanigan for while they took to protesting on board - but for Banky W's intervention, the passengers would have stormed the pilot's cabin to cause commotion.

2face Idibia premieres video for Spiritual Healing

2face has released an animated video for the soulful "Spiritual Healing' from the album Away and Beyond.

The video is directed by Clarence Peters, with animation and motion graphics by Niyi “XYZ” Faleyimu.

The video has an innovative storyline that is engaging and very spiritual indeed.

2face Idibia tells it all; My women, The lies and The truth

My women The lies, the truth Tuface

2face Idibia recently had an interesting chat with the Nation’s newspaper - he bared his mind on life as a married man, the alleged scandals that have trailed his career for years and his relationship with his babies’ mothers.

The best part was where he sweetly described Annie Idibia as a jealous woman "She loves me. So she must be jealous. If I am laughing with a particular girl too much or I am going the way that I am not supposed to go, or if one girl is following me too much, she will be there to caution me. She definitely has to be protective of her man. At that point she can tell such a girl, ‘hold your side!’ And if it is I that is doing it, she could tell me, ‘cool down, I dey here o.’"

See excerpts below:

We read so much about you in the news. Would you say that those things we read about you are true?
A lot of them have been false, while a lot of them have been true. Some are true, no doubt, but a lot, like I said, are so false. It is like that, and it has been like that.

How do you feel when they are so false?
I am always then like, why should people be so evil? So evil like that? I tend to ask myself at that point why? People are so lazy that they cannot take time to seek out the truth! Take for instance your own medium; you have taken time to seek me out. I guess that is how it should be. If you ask questions rightly, of course, you will get answers. Sometimes though, those false stories amuse me. That is being famous for you! I take it in good strides. I do not let it affect my character.

You talk about false stories, which one can you immediately share with us?
Okay, there is this recent one, which has been in the news lately, which refers to me as having impregnated my account officer. In the first place, I do not know where that story emanated from. I don’t even know where that story could have come out from. I don’t know about it at all!

But the impression out there is that it is true…
Of course it is not true. Impression you said, but impression can also be in both ways. Initially nobody said whether it was true or not. So what I did was to correct whatever impression from my twitter page. But the story still went on. It is a serious matter because now I am married. So it is unfair for anyone to put out such story about me perhaps because they want to sell their medium or sell their blog. It is really totally unfair to me, especially now that I am married. If I wasn’t married, we would have laughed over the matter. But now, I am. So I do not expect that people will play over such issues of emotion at this time of my life.

What does it feel like to be Tuface, to be famous?
It’s not easy for me. But I feel say na me don go set myself up. I have gone out there to put myself up, so I have to live it. It is not easy. If feels good, but it is a lot of challenges, a lot of non-privacy. So many things are being flung your way, temptations, and if you are not careful, you get swept off by the evil tide. There are so many hazards in being famous and if you can’t control yourself, you get carried away within a short time. It is not all smooth- sailing. I can tell you that it is not all glamour.
For instance, I enter into an event, a place and I walk straight to go and find a seat for myself to sit. But before I know it, some people will take it personal. Meanwhile if someone else does it, it is seen as normal and accepted. So when I enter a place, I have to move around first and greet people. That is why you see me say ‘I hail o’ each time I enter a place. But you know, it is not all the time that you are in a good mood to be so friendly. But because you are famous, whether you are in a good mood or not, you have to put on a smile and greet people. Else, if you do not do that as a celebrity, such things will make you to easily make enemies. You actually make enemies without even realizing it. That is the crazy part of being a celebrity and a famous person.

How has married life been? It has been a year already, isn’t it?
Yes, it was a year on Sunday. And the wedding actually took place on a Sunday. It was like the same day all over again. So far so good, married life is cool. We don dey do wetin married people dey do. We don dey sidon together, we go laugh, we go quarrel small (laughs), we go come hold each other again as if no be us quarrel some moments ago. Life has been kind to us since we got married. We have been living happily ever after. I know we did the wedding in Dubai and some said they couldn’t come. But I tell you, even if we had done it in Lagos, some people would still have missed it. The Dubai event was not an excuse for anybody to say anything. We did the traditional wedding celebration in Akwa Ibom State, in Nigeria after all.

Before you proposed, there were some other women in your life. Why is it Annie that you decided to propose to and marry?
I have been fortunate enough to have met a couple of nice ladies in life and two of them even have children for me. But I think that Annie and I understand each other more. As with matters of the heart, it is very difficult sometimes to find the right words to explain it. Somehow, you just know that this is the particular person that you want to stay with.

How do you handle the ‘maturity thing’ in marriage?
We try to live our lives our own way. We have never had cause to introduce the third party in our home. When we have a problem, we sort it out between ourselves. We don’t call anybody in to come and solve our problems for us. We sit down and talk about it. Like I said earlier, sometimes we quarrel when both of us are stubborn over a matter. But we do not involve the third party!

Do the other ladies still hang around?
Definitely I have a couple of female friends, just like I have a couple of male friends. Boundaries are to be respected and if boundaries are not being respected, I have to voice a respectable apology and move on. But I think my friends know this. So they ‘free’ me.

Is your wife not the jealous type?
She loves me. So she must be jealous. If I am laughing with a particular girl too much or I am going the way that I am not supposed to go, or if one girl is following me too much, she will be there to caution me. She definitely has to be protective of her man. At that point she can tell such a girl, ‘hold your side!’ And if it is I that is doing it, she could tell me, ‘cool down, I dey here o.’

How do you relate to your children from different women?
If you see me and my children together, you will think we are mates. That is how I relate with them.

And your relationship with your children’s mothers?
We are good. We are peaceful, everybody is matured. We have a cordial relationship. One love always…

Looking at you, physically you have not changed much since you got married. One would have expected that you would have become bulkier in size. The face keeps remaining the same. How have you been able to keep fit and trim over the years?

I guess it is my structure. It is my nature. I am a lean person by nature. I do not do any dieting to remain in this shape. It is my natural structure.

And no protruding stomach…
(Laughs) I try to do exercise once in a while; I try to stay on top.

What is your best food?
Beans and yam (concoction, laughs). But there is one soup called ekpankukwo that my wife cooks for me from time to time.

It is been a long journey from where you are coming from. Looking back, how do you feel? How have the big moments in your life been so far?
When I look back, I am amazed. Back then, I didn’t think that I could make it to this point. I didn’t see it coming to this height. I probably may have seen it two years ahead, but not this far. There have been many ups and downs. So many highlights and high moments; one of my greatest moments back then was the first time that Plantashun Boys’ music was played on radio. It was like Christmas! We said to ourselves, ol boy, na our song dey radio so. That was in the year 1999; we did Omode meta with Tony Tetuila in 1998. But Plantashun Boys, which was our own music, made us so excited. There was jubilation amongst us. And then after, I got a couple of awards. That made me more excited.
And then again I went solo, won the MTV Europe Music Awards. That was a major highlight in my musical career. It was a big deal to me.
My video was the first to be played on MTV. Another big moment for me was the first time that I performed with Wyclef. That had been somebody that I had looked up to, and lo and behold, there he was in Nigeria. I was sitting with him. That was a big deal to me. Wyclef was an artist that had really inspired me.
Another golden moment was hmmm, when my first child came. It is not like I was not excited over the other ones, but when the first one arrived, I had this feeling that oh yeah, I am a father now! I was all wow and wow, so I am a father now. I kept saying to myself that I am responsible for this tiny human being…It was a very emotional feeling for me. My first child’s name is Nino.
Another exciting and great moment for me was when I proposed and got married to my wife. I proposed and she actually said yes to this useless boy! (Humbly points to himself). I said to myself, ‘Hey, this girl said yes to me! I was over joyed!!!

How did you propose to her?
I knelt down (laughs). After that, I told her that we should go somewhere to rock and enjoy ourselves. Meanwhile, my friend had invited people to that place already. She didn’t see it coming at all. It was a big huge surprise.

She is an actress, and you are a music star. You are both in the entertainment industry. How do you get on with the challenges of life in the show biz world?
I guess what we do actually adds to our understanding of the general public and the general way of how we should handle ‘us’, handle ourselves. I do not have any problem with her acting and she doesn’t have a problem with me doing music. We are just blending it. Right now, she has been off acting because of what they call maternity leave. But she is going to get back to acting at some point.

How does your wife Annie feel about your music?
If you recall this song, nfana ibaha o, she was the one that actually taught me how to say it, how to do it back then. So she has been my fan from way back. If I am doing a song and the song is not nice, she will tell me straight. She could urge me to change it or adjust it. She is my fine critic.

First Photos From Jonathan’s Daughter’s Traditional Marriage In Bayelsa

FAITH & GODSWILL

The traditional marriage of Jonathan’s foster daughter is currently going on in Beyelsa and here are some first photos courtesy of Maestromedia and Helen Ozor.
The traditional marriage journey began last night Friday, April 4, 2014 at about 7pm, with the payment of bride price and exchange of gifts between the 2 families, it's part of the rites that must be observed. Though, it wasn't the main event itself, in attendance were the family members on both sides and a sprinkling of friends, the likes of Hajia Bola Shagaya, Senator Ben Obi, Ifeanyi Uba, Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, Governor Liyel Imoke, some 1st ladies and many more.

The ceremony we heard started at about 7.30pm when the President and his beloved wife-Patience arrived at the venue of the event, which was a beautifully decorated marquee that had been erected in the President's compound. And things began in earnest. The groom's entourage from Cross Rivers State we heard was led by the Governor of his state Governor Liyel Imoke. As expected there was exchange of pleasantries between both families. The Edward's entourage was asked what their mission was and they stated it was about a beautiful flower in the Goodluck's vineyard that they had come to enquire about. Whom their son would love to have as wife forever.

HAJIA BOLA SHAGAYA

From the initial intro to the fun haggling on the bride price, which started from 1 million and was finally pegged and agreed to at N50,000. Thereafter the agreement, the groom and family then went on to present many gifts to the bride's family and community.
