God writes my songs - Onyeka Onwenu

General, National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) on Wednesday says her songs were not usually written rather they were inspiration from God.

"I do not write songs, I download as inspire by God, and my producer can bear me witness. God is the owner of all copyright but I download from Him as he gives freely," Onwenu said.

Onwenu was speaking in Abuja at a news conference to host Nigerian youths to peace concert organised by the office of the first lady.

The musical legend, who composed a song for the peace concert slated for Saturday at the Eagle Square said she was inspired by the first lady, who said wants to be addressed as "Mama Peace''.

The title of the song billed to be launched at the Eagle Square for the peace concert is "Mama Peace'' to reawaken the Nigerian youths on the need to imbibe the culture of peace.

Onwenu said that the song was sequel to the serial killings by the insurgents in the North East and some pocket of violence recorded in some parts of the country.

She said that the music was important for the country now that it was working to ensure that there was peace in that part of the country.

According to her, the song is dedicated to the carnage going on in the North East.

On why the venue of the peace concert is in Abuja and not Maiduguri being the epicentre of the insurgency, she said that the choice of Abuja was based on its centrality to the country.

The first lady at the inauguration of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme Maternal and Child Health programme known as "Mama Project" on December  13, 2013 explained reason for adopting the title Mama Peace.

Epic Tweet Fight between Linda Ikeji, Omojuwa, El-Rufai’s Son & Others

LINDA-OMOJUWA-COVER

Last night recorded an epic Twitter exchange between top Nigerian blogger, Linda Ikeji and another top Nigerian blogger, twitter activist and political commentator, Japheth Omojuwa.

Let me explain what started the fight. There has been talk about a widely circulated article that tried to link the recent spike in Boko Haramattack to the suspension of the CBN governor,Lamido Sanusi. The article was written by someone called Wendell Simlin.

The article was circulated to bloggers and journalists on Wednesday with the third party email address, wendellsimlin@yahoo.com, but an analysis of the document’s metadata later revealed that Reno Omokri, Special Assistant to the President on New Media authored it. PREMIUM TIMES and some other news media contacted Reno to get his own side of the story but he refused to respond.
This story was really hot and got the whole Nigerian online community buzzing. But guess what?

The queen of gossip and breaking news, did not carry this hot story on her blog.

LINDA-OMOJUWA-X
Naturally, it got people wondering why Linda would pass up such a juicy story. Just then Linda published a different article written by Reno (he used his real name this time…hehehe!) titled, Social Media in the Jonathanian Age.Linda said this on her blog before posting Reno’s article:
“Before you people start, let me explain. Lol. Yes I did see all your comments about me not getting involved in the ‘Wendell Simlin’ scandal. I didn’t write anything about it because it was an accusation which could be true or false and I just refused to be pressured. I decided to leave it alone until Mr Reno reacts to it but he never did… so…:-). Anyway, here’s another piece written by him…”
I have two words for that intro: LAME EXCUSE.
Most people also thought her excuse was lame including Omojuwa and one of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai‘s sons who uses the Twitter handle@HElrufai.
Now you can read the tweets…

Oops! Pope Francis uses the F-word during Sunday Blessing

Pope Francis is the centre of an unfortunate mistake.
While addressing millions at the Vatcian’s Apostolic Palace, the pontiff accidentally uttered the F word in Italian before quickly correcting himself.

He said the word “Cazzo” which means the f word, instead of “Caso” meaning example. But within seconds his mistake was posted on dozens of Italian media websites and YouTube and had gained millions of worldwide hits as it went viral.
The 77-year old Pope was speaking on a peaceful solution to the crisis in Ukraine.
“‘It is my wish that all the components of the country will endeavor to overcome misunderstandings and build together the future of the nation.
I make a heartfelt appeal to the international community to support every initiative on behalf of dialogue and harmony.
A heart full of longing for possession is a heart empty of God.
For this, Jesus many times chastised the rich because the risk for them to seek security in the wealth of this world is high.
In this (f-word), in this case the providence of God is made visible as gesture of solidarity.”

Lupita Nyong’o's 7 Important Lessons About Black Beauty (photos)

Pharell Happy 02
Whoop, Lupita Nyong,  31, won Oscars Best Supporting Actress award for her role as Patsy in the 12 years a slave movie.

On Friday, February 28th, 2014, mere hours before she snatched the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 12 Years A Slave, Lupita Nyong’o delivered a powerful speech on the power of black beauty at a luncheon for Black Women In Hollywood.

In the speech, Nyong’o took the opportunity to respond to a small part of a letter a fan wrote her about the beauty of being dark black:
“Dear Lupita, I think you’re really lucky to be this Black but yet this successful in Hollywood overnight. I was just about to buy Dencia’s Whitenicious cream to lighten my skin when you appeared on the world map and saved me.”

What stands out about the letter is, on the one hand, highlighting the challenge of being black in Hollywood and, moreover, being “this black.” Pause and let your self think for a moment about what “this black” even means, and what it’s like to receive a letter from a young girl who is basically trying to get rid of her own blackness.

I don’t need to rehearse the history of black skin lightening and hair straightening processes here, but what I do want to highlight is the importance of having a black actress who has thought so closely about the beauty of being dark black in predominantly white Hollywood.

So here’s how Lupita responded:

1. “I remember a time when I too felt unbeautiful. I put on the TV and only saw pale skin, I got teased and taunted about my night-shaded skin. And my one prayer to God, the miracle worker, was that I would wake up lighter-skinned.”
2. “And every day I experienced the same disappointment of being just as dark as I had been the day before. I tried to negotiate with God: I told him I would stop stealing sugar cubes at night if he gave me what I wanted; I would listen to my mother’s every word and never lose my school sweater again if he just made me a little lighter.”
3. “And then Alek Wek came on the international scene. A celebrated model, she was dark as night, she was on all of the runways and in every magazine and everyone was talking about how beautiful she was.”
4. “I couldn’t believe that people were embracing a woman who looked so much like me as beautiful. My complexion had always been an obstacle to overcome and all of a sudden, Oprah was telling me it wasn’t.”
5. “When I saw Alek (Wek) I inadvertently saw a reflection of myself that I could not deny. Now, I had a spring in my step because I felt more seen, more appreciated by the far away gatekeepers of beauty, but around me the preference for light skin prevailed.”
6. “What is fundamentally beautiful is compassion for yourself and for those around you. That kind of beauty enflames the heart and enchants the soul.”
7. “And so I hope that my presence on your screens and in the magazines may lead you, young girl, on a similar journey. That you will feel the validation of your external beauty but also get to the deeper business of being beautiful inside. There is no shade to that beauty.”
