How I handled sexual advances — Belinda Effah speaks

On sexual harassment, she said, 'I am not going to deny the fact that someone at some point made passes at me. This was when I was starting out in the industry but right now, I’ve not had that experience. When people call me for jobs, they are very professional about it. I thank God that I didn’t fall into that trap and it was even a ‘nobody’ who made the pass at that time. Some ladies toed that line but where are they today? When you sell your birthright, you can’t retrieve it again.'

On how she coped as a young lady who was catered for by a single parent, she said, ''I usually do not talk about my private life. What people know me for are my movies, so I am not keen on putting my private life out there. People do not care about you really; they don’t know how I feed or live. All those information are private and I don’t want it in the public space. I’d appreciate if people just keep watching my movies and focus solely on that.''

Group says protest ‘ll continue without 2Face

Mixed reactions have followed late Saturday’s cancellation of the much anticipated protest march to be convened by hip hop musician, Innocent Idibia, aka 2Face.

The singer, up till late Friday, maintained there was no going back on the planned protest, despite warning by security agencies that the rally was capable of being hijacked by hoodlums.

However, in a video released on Saturday night, 2Face who eventually yielded security advice, said it was not wise to go on with the protest, as the rally is not worth the blood of any Nigerian.

He noted that consultations have shown clearly that the ‘One Voice’ protest scheduled to hold in Lagos and Abuja on Monday, February 6, is under serious threat of hijack by interests not aligned with the ideals of his group.

”The point I am making is that the intent is not worth the life of any Nigerian. It is motivated by the need to negotiate a better deal for the ordinary Nigerian.

”I therefore announce the cancellation of the planned protest.

“We would share further information in due course. We appreciate the massive support .

“I am convinced our voices have been heard.

May God bless you all, may God bless Nigeria,” said the singer, in the audio-visual message that has soon gone viral on the internet.

While critics of the protest continue to praise him for taking a wise step by desisting from an activity they thought was shifting his focus from his music career, his supporters have been divided in there reactions. To some, it was an act of cowardice to bow to pressure from security agencies while to others, the singer’s outcry in the last two weeks has created enough awareness on the grievances of the people against some of the unfavorable policies of government.

Meanwhile, indication emerged early Sunday that the protest may continue without 2Face, as a group called Coalition in Defence of Nigerian Democracy and Constitution (CDNDC)  has vowed to continue with the protest, saying it was never about 2Face and his group alone in the first place.

In a press statement issued by one Ariyo-Dare Atoye, co-convener, CDNDC, “the cancellation of #IStandWithNigeria rally is not the consensus of Nigerians, majority of fellow planners and not a true reflection of the sincere plan to organize this rally in public interest.”

He said: “Let it be known that Mr. Idibia merely keyed into an ongoing public discourse over this protest to take a lead. It was never his singular idea but the concerns of the suffering masses.

“Therefore, we wish to inform concerned Nigerians and the international community that there is a national and public consensus for this protest to hold as scheduled in all venues. There are hundreds of groups and thousands of Nigerians who are leading this initiative and we will not back down.”

According to Atoye, “This is the time to separate real activists from emergency activists. Emergency activists seek mortality with the fear of man, while revolutionists and real activists seek immortality with the fear of God.

“Consequently, in the exact opposite of what our brother, 2Face said; “Dear Nigerians, due to stomach insecurity and bad governance consideration, we hereby announce the continuation of the march as scheduled – on Monday, February 6, 2017,” he said.

Apostle Suleman finally honours DSS invite

Apostle Johnson Suleman, General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, has finally arrived the Abuja office of the Department of State Services, DSS.
DSS had invited him for questioning over ‘inciting’ comments he made against Fulani herdsmen.
“He is there now. Those who accompanied him include some Governors, Ministers. I cannot disclose names now.
“But during the day, some leaders of CAN and PFN held series of meeting with Apostle. I’m not sure they will be at the interrogation room.” a source said.
Asked why the meeting fixed for 10am delayed for hours, the source said this was because “the DG of DSS will be the one to personally question Apostle hence the shift in time.”
It was gathered that the DSS, despite already mounted barricades, has further cordoned off its complex stretching about a kilometre.
Also, security personnel in front of the Yellow House, was increased.
This may not be uncconected with expectation that Apostle Suleman’s supporters may storm the vicinity.
Earlier on Monday, Suleman stated the DSS did the right thing by inviting him for interrogation.
Suleman, who stated this while briefing newsmen in Abuja, said “I presume the right thing was done. They have been in touch with me to come and that is why I am in Abuja, so that I can see them”.
According to him, his recent statement where he asked his members to kill any herdsman around his church was based on information from a reliable source that herdsmen were coming to attack him.
He said that he stood by his statement on self defence.

“I was talking in my personal capacity on information from a reliable source that certain people in the capacity of herdsmen were coming to attack me and I told the people around me that if it happens they should defend themselves”, he said.

People shoud mind their business, my marriage is still intact for now – Actress Uche Elendu

A lot has been said about Nollywood actress, Uche Elendu’s three- year- old marriage.
Many people have speculated that the marriage had since hit the rocks due to infidelity on the path of the actress, while some others claimed that her husband, Ogochukwu Igweanyiba, is the unfaithful one.

You also recall that last year, news broke that Uche Elendu’s husband had gifted his alleged mistress, former beauty queen, Sandra Chichi Ekwosiobi pictured above, a 2016 benz.

Their relationship was brought to fore after the beauty queen posted pictures of a brand new Mercedes Benz GL 2016, she claimed was gifted to her by her lover who was finally revealed to be Uche's husband.

However, in a chat with Saturday Beats, the actress said that she was surprised that other people are the ones telling her that her marriage is in crisis.

According to the damsel, her marriage is intact and
everything is perfect “for now.”

Uche told Saturday Beats: “There is nothing happening. My marriage is intact. People are entitled to their opinion and they are allowed to dwell in other people’s marriage and tell them what is going on because as far as I am concerned, they are the ones telling me that my marriage has hit the rocks because I am not aware.
It has always been my motto not to bring my personal life to the public. The things that are supposed to be made public are made public and those things that should be private are kept private.
When I was getting married, I made it public so when I am tired of my marriage or when my marriage does not work for me anymore, I would let them know. But for now, they are telling me and I am just listening. By God’s grace everything is fine with my marriage. For now, everything is perfect.
“I don’t comment when people lay claims that my marriage is in trouble because I see such as idle talk. I don’t know why people derive so much pleasure in meddling in my business and private life.
Whether what they say is true or not, I don’t think it is anybody’s business. I don’t have any business replying them because I don’t owe them that explanation. Whatever I go through in my marriage, I pass through alone and nobody is with me when I go through them. Whatever I gain from my marriage, I gain alone so what is the point?” she said.

How my mother saved me from committing suicide out of poverty – Mr. Ibu

John Okafor aka Mr. Ibu in a new interview, has revealed that he would have taken his life since 1997 due to the hardship he faced in life.

According to him, at that point in his life, things were so hard that he could barely afford to feed himself. To make matters worse, the actor said he had no roof over his head and suicide seemed like the easiest option.

He told Saturday Beats: “Do you know that there was a day that I had prepared to kill myself in Ajao Estate? That day, I was prepared to jump into a well because of the situation that surrounded me.
Three days before that day, I had not eaten and I did not have hope of eating for the next week. I was only surviving on water and I hate it when I bother anyone.
Most of my close friends were not bothered about my well-being even though it was obvious that I was not alright. I remember December 18, 1997, a friend of mine who I squatted with called me in the morning and told me that he would be going home for Christmas and he did not want anyone to be in his room.
I assured him that no one would come to his place but he said he wanted me out of the room. I told him that I did not have another place to stay and he should trust me that as usual, I would take good care of the place. Though I was older than him, I did all the washing and cleaning of the house to the extent that I washed his panties and underwear.
I did that so that I could have a roof over my head. But out of anger, that my friend went into the house, brought out all my things and threw them outside, then he told me to leave his house, he locked his door and left.
“From where I was seated, I was looking at the well. I thought to myself, ‘is it not better to end my life by jumping into the well so that when people return in the evening and they need water, they would discover my body and my friend would know that he was the reason I committed suicide?’
I went to the well and as I opened the lid and prepared to jump inside, the image of my mother’s face flashed through my mind. I quickly closed the well and began to wonder how my mother knew that I wanted to kill myself.
My mother was still alive at the time; she was about 80 years old. I went back and leaned by the wall. A neighbour, Francis, was playing a song by Michael Bolton titled ‘When I am back on my Feet Again.’ The song gave me hope and I decided to stay alive,” he said.

Okafor said that after he had decided against killing himself, he needed to find somewhere to sleep and since he had no one to stay with; he opted to sleep under a lorry, a space where dogs used as their house.

He stayed there for a while till God sent a helper to him.

“I cleaned the place and was able to get some cartons which I used to do a tent. In the course of cleaning the place, I realised that it was dogs that used to sleep there at night but I had no choice.
One night, about 30 dogs were barking so no one could sleep so I had to move my cartons to another location. While I was changing my bearing, I saw some people gathering. I hid my cartons, went close to the place and saw that it was a movie audition. I saw some of my friends there like Pete Edochie, and a friend called Sandra Ezeh.
When Sandra saw me, she hugged me and said she was a big fan of my work especially my role in ‘Ikuku.’ She asked if I was doing anything and when I told her I wasn’t, she insisted that I accompany her to see her boyfriend.
Since I had no job, I followed her; beside, all I needed then was food. I was so hungry at the time that it began to affect my eye sight. Sadly, her boyfriend had travelled so she said we should go to see another friend.
We met the woman who owned a bar and when I asked for food, she said all she had was pepper soup and drinks. I told her to give me pepper soup and she was nice enough to tell them to give me two agidi with the pepper soup. After I ate the food, I fell into a deep sleep.
“When I woke up, I saw an address, 125 Adetola Street, then immediately, I remembered that a friend had called me asking me to stay in his house because he was travelling to Germany and that was the address.
Immediately I crossed the street and went to the house. When I got into the house, my friend, Frank, just got in from London. He was so happy to see me that he hugged me and we both fell to the ground. He then said that no matter where I was staying, I had to move into his house.
We went to pick my load from where I put it. Frank asked why my load was outside and I lied to him that I was preparing to travel. That was how he gave me a room in his flat. I prayed to God thanking him for saving me. He started taking me out and buying me clothes. It was from there I got my footing,” he said.

Prophet Olagunroye Faleyimu doesn't regret his negative prophecies on Funke Akindele'

The founder of Mountain of Blessing and Miracle Church of Christ, Dr. Olagorioye Faleyimu, in December 2016 made shocking prophecies for 2017.

Among the prophecies was that Nollywood actress Funke Akindele needs serious prayers in order to have children.

In a new interview with Encomium, the prophet says he has no regrets over his prophecy despite the backlash he got from many Nigerians.

According to him, he is an anointed prophet whose calling is to deliver message as sent by God and
move on. That he has been cursed by people in the past over prophecies he made but at the end of it all, all he said will come to pass.

Excerpts below:

Recently, social media was agog with your prophecy over star actress Funke Akindele which you said if she’s not very prayerful, she may not have a child and this has attracted a lot of condemnation within and outside the entertainment industry. What do you have t say about this?

Yes, it’s God that revealed to me that she’s destined to be famous and wealthy but no child. But if she’s very prayerful, she will eventually break the yoke of barrenness and become a mother. And that same message has also been repeated.

Even, if she doesn’t seek the face of God, her enemies don’t want her to have a stable home despite the fact that she has remarried. That means the marriage can still crash unless she’s prayerful.

God has also repeated it this year, that for her to have a child, she needs to be closer to God. People are now attacking me here and there that why did I say that? Some said I should have written a letter to her or invited her privately instead of making it public. But I am not a kind of prophet that predicts because of money.

I am an anointed prophet. My calling is to deliver message as sent by God. But some people don’t know the difference between prophets and anointed ones. It’s in the Bible and Qur’an how the prophets of God operate. They’re not prophets of nowadays that only came to collect money from the government, high and mighty in the society and others.

As a prophet, deliver God’s message and move on. You don’t need to be on anybody’s neck.

I read in one of these Yoruba magazines that Funke Akindele is waging spiritual war against me because of the prophecy; nothing can happen to … God didn’t send me. I don’t regret on what I said. All she needs is to pray very well, I have nothing against her.

I am 40 years as a prophet. That means I have been predicting since 40 years ago and I have never regretted any of my prophecies. I am used to all these criticisms about my prophecies. Even, at times, some would curse me but at the end of it all, all I said will come to pass.

When I revealed what God told me about TB Joshua, some people commented that I wanted to collect money from him, but I think everybody saw it when he escaped death in 2014. Some were saying TB Joshua was supposed to have seen it before it happened.

I am a farmer and I am contented. But my calling is to deliver God’s message to His people and I shouldn’t be afraid of anybody irrespective of his or her position.

In 2009, when God sent me to theatre practitioners that 25 of them would die, unless they pray, they called me fraudster, claiming I wanted to use the prophecy to extort them. But when it happened most of them said they would sue me. They called me fake prophet, but the death didn’t stop until they were 25.

Some said before election in 2015 that Buhari can never rule Nigeria again but Buhari is ruling now which I had earlier predicted.
