T.B Joshua takes relatives of building collapse victims on shopping spree

e

TB Joshua has taken some of the relatives of the 85 South Africans killed when a guesthouse collapsed at the Synagogue, Church of All Nations on a shopping spree and showered them with cash.

The controversial pastor extended invitations to 44 relatives of the deceased for Christmas dinner and many accepted. Another group is expected to go to Nigeria this month.

Mpumalanga schoolteacher, Wonder Ndlovu, 47, whose husband, Mbongeni Ndlovu, 52, died in the collapse, was among the first group to spend time with the pastor after the tragedy.

She told the Daily News they had a “nice time” in Nigeria and had been taken shopping – apparently at Joshua’s expense – as well as handed 50 000 Naira (about R3 200), and taken out to the best hotels.

They also visited the site where their loved ones died. “He (Joshua) took us to a five-star posh hotel for dinner, fine food and drinks. The hotel is in Victoria Island,” said Ndlovu.

“After chilling, we came back in his luxurious kombis. (There were) more surprises while (we were) preparing to sleep. The mamas who took us shopping knocked and presented us with 50 000 naira each and they said we (must not) use all our (own) shopping money… I just sang A huna ya tshwana le yena (there’s no one like him),” she said.

On Monday, the group visited the disaster site and Ndlovu said it was an emotional experience. “We met with the man of God (Joshua) and he briefed us about the site visit.

“Wiseman Harry and other evangelists took us there, it was very emotional for me, but others were strong and comforting.

“I brought flowers from South Africa and laid them with my son.” Added Ndlovu: “The prophet is full of surprises. After weeping, he took us to the city to see places. To our surprise we shopped till we dropped and the bill is on him.”

Joshua laid his hands on and prayed for the relatives, a feeling Ndlovu described as a “touch from heaven”.

“We were having the time of our lives, forgetting the pain of the past and looking forward to picking up the pieces and moving on. Yesterday has gone by, but tomorrow is forever.”

Ndlovu said of the disaster site: “It is ugly. Looking at the building foundations, we are convinced it was an attack.”

The Lagos state coroner is carrying out an inquest into the causes of the collapse at a guesthouse within the church’s compound.

Expert witnesses have said the structure was unsound and lacked proper permits but Joshua’s vocal followers have insisted the building came down as a result of foul play, and was a bid to destroy the powerful religious leader.

Among the theories advanced by Joshua loyalists is that a plane flying in the area at the time of the collapse dropped an explosive device on the building.

One weapons expert called by the church’s lawyers, Beidomu Iguniwei, has testified that the collapse could have been caused by an “infrasonic weapon”.

Meanwhile, some of the KZN families who have received invitations to meet Joshua this month said they would gladly go.

Simphiwe Ngcobo, 29, of Durban North, said the trip to the Nigerian capital would help him connect “spiritually” with his parents, Dickie and Dennis Ngcobo.

He said he was excited about the trip and would travel with a relative this month. “It is important for us to go to the site and pay our respects to our loved ones. We have accepted their death and we are moving on.

“We could have gone with the first group of families but we decided to be with the family over Christmas,” he said.

“We have no qualms against anyone, which is why we have gladly accepted this wonderful gesture from the man of God.”

Reverend Eric Myeni, whose 29-year-old son, Sabelo, died in the September 12 collapse, has also accepted Joshua’s invitation.

He hopes to meet Joshua and receive spiritual guidance. “We need to overcome what has happened by showing our faith in Christ. We can never reverse our adversity. But with hope in the Lord we can overcome the pain suffered,” he said.

While 74 bodies were flown back to South Africa last month, relatives and friends of the remaining 11 spent the festive season without closure as the forensic identification process was still under way.

Speaking from Nigeria, Kirsten Nematandani, a spokesman for the church based in South Africa, confirmed a second group would visit this month.

He said the “healing” process for the families began last Friday when they had gathered for three hours at the church’s “Prayer Mountain”.

“It is where our prophet’s vision started. When you walk to the sacred mountain, you have to take off your shoes. It is a life-changing experience,” Nematandani said.

“We have been staying at the church premises. The prophet stays here too.”

Boko Haram seizes 40 boys, men in Borno

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen have kidnapped 40 boys and young men in a remote village in northeast Nigerian Borno state on New Year's Eve, residents who fled the isolated settlement said on Saturday.
Scores of Boko Haram militants stormed the Malari village around 8:00 pm and whisked away the males, aged between 10 and 23, into the nearby Sambisa forest, believed to be one of the Islamists' major bases.
The news of the abductions came out only days later, after residents who fled the village arrived in the state capital Maiduguri late on Friday.
"They came in pick-up trucks armed with guns and gathered all the men in the village outside the home of the village chief where they preached to us before singling out 40 of our boys and taking them away," Bulama Muhammad told AFP
Malari village lies 20 kilometres from the Sambisa forest and close to the town of Gwoza, which the militants captured last June declaring it part of their caliphate.
"My two sons and three nephews were among those taken away by the Boko Haram gunmen and we believe they are going to use them as conscripts," Muhammad said.
"When we heard of the kidnap of 40 boys in Malari by Boko Haram we decided to leave because we could be the next target," said Alaramma Babagoni, who fled from the nearby village of Mulgwi.
"Boko Haram has been abducting young men from villages in the area because we are close to their stronghold in Sambisa forest," he said.
There was no immediate comment on the incident from the military in Maiduguri.
Residents of Malari and nearby villages fled, fearing further attacks and abductions.
Boko Haram has recently been seizing young men during raids on area villages to use as foot soldiers in its uprising aimed at establishing an Islamic state in northern Nigeria, residents said.
Suspected Boko Haram gunmen launched a deadly raid Tuesday on Kautikari village near Chibok, torched several buildings and killed as many as 15 people, according to witnesses.
There was no toll available from an official source on the raid.

Boko Haram is still holding in captivity more than 200 schoolgirls it abducted from their school in Chibok in Borno state last April.

I would have been a polygamist – Jeremiah Gyang and wifey tell their LOVE story

Mr. & Mrs. Gyang
Jeremiah Gyang, a musician, has been married to Ladi for four years. They share their love story in a chat with punch, see excerpts below:

How did you meet each other?
Jeremiah: I met her 12 years ago in my church. It was during a week-long event. She walked right in while I was on the keyboard. The second I set my eyes on her, something changed in me. I was lost in my emotions yet I was logical to the last verse. I was deeply in love with a complete stranger.
Did you notice him then?
Ladi: It was his father’s church and it was located around where I lived with my parents. Luckily for him, we decided to worship there since it was newly set up in the area. I didn’t notice he had his eyes on me, but all I saw was a very young guy who was really good with the keyboard even though I didn’t know much about music then. I only realized he had his eyes on me later on when we became friends.
How did you get her attention?
Jeremiah: I became friends with a very committed member of the church who was her neighbour. Looking back now, I think it is because that was the first time in my life I wrote a love song, considering how much a radical religionist I was.
What were some of the hurdles you crossed to reach her?
Jeremiah: I went with my newly- made friend to know his house. As we walked to his house, I saw her and she spoke to me. Sadly, by the time we got to my ‘new’ friend’s house, he walked me out. This was after we both figured that we were in love with the same girl.
Ladi: I was shocked and excited at the same time to know he had to become friends with my neighbour just to be close to me. I am aware of what transpired between both of them that day. The guy did ask me out but I wasn’t really interested in him because I saw him as a brother and we grew up together.
Why did you settle for Jeremiah?
Ladi: His manner of approach and confidence won me over. He knew what he wanted and went for it.
How did you propose to her?
Jeremiah: I proposed to her on the first day I asked her out. I told her my mind was settled and I would love to settle down with her.
How did you realise you were meant for the other?
Ladi: I just knew he was the right man for me. He is also nice, understanding and caring. I didn’t accept his proposal at first because of the way he made his intentions known. It took me some months to say yes.
Were you once his personal assistant as widely believed?
Ladi: No, I wasn’t. I just helped him out with some of the planning.
Did you find it easier to settle down because you were not yet a star?
Jeremiah: I never knew I would become a star and I didn’t know the track, ‘Na Baka’ will be a hit. I think that is one of the reasons some people say I am unserious with my career. Truth is, it was not expected and I didn’t know how to handle it. I did many things wrong. It was a lesson and that was why I kept going to Jos because if I was in Lagos I won’t be married to her.
How do you mean?
Jeremiah: Lagos presents you with a lot of opportunities and many of them are a bit bogus and some are real. As a young man; I was just 32, I wasn’t promiscuous neither was I ever trained for the limelight. I was just a humble singer who was simply talented. If I had not been very successful in my career, it might have affected my marriage. I am from a broken home and I understood life and became wise at a very young age.
What do you think about the spate of crashed celebrity marriages?
Ladi: It does bother me anytime I hear such news or stories. Many of these celebrities are role models whom many people look up to. It is expected of them to stay together in love no matter how hard the situation might be sometimes. A crashed celebrity marriage is not something one would look forward to.
How possible is it to be happily married as a celebrity?
Jeremiah: It is possible for celebrity marriages to work if they understand the true meaning of marriage. The foundation of my marriage is solid and can’t crash. I can’t say I am better than other celebrities, but my wife and I decided to get married and remain in our union no matter the circumstance. I don’t even know why you should cheat on your spouse even though I know temptation is everywhere.
Do you face challenges in the marriage?
Ladi: No, but he travels alot for shows. It isn’t challenging for me because I have known him since 1997 and we have been married for four years now.
Why do you think many of your colleagues chose to remain single?
Jeremiah: It doesn’t make any sense to remain single just because you want female fans. I don’t even subscribe to that school of thought. I have a personal life and my music is a tool and a means to an end. I don’t involve myself with a lot of politics in the music industry. If my female fans seem not to like me because I am married, it is their own cup of tea. I am happily married to my wife. I feel so honoured and privileged to marry her.
Do you both run a joint account?
Ladi: Yes, we do and it was his idea.
Jeremiah: I don’t want her to go through any form of suffering whenever I die. I believe in planning for the future and empowering my spouse.
Anything you would love to change about your spouse?
Ladi: Absolutely nothing.
Jeremiah: I love everything about her. She is still the best woman I have ever encountered. If I hadn’t married my wife when I did, I would have been a polygamist. God just prepared her specially for me.
What are some of the fond memories of your union?
Jeremiah: Our trips, picnics and travels together even though with the birth of our daughter, we have slowed down a bit. It is a new experience and she may have to divide her love between our daughter and I. The baby also needs all the attention from the two of us. Now, all I do is empower her to do the things I don’t know how to do. This means I don’t disturb her too much.
Ladi: There are lots of them but I can never get over the surprise birthday party he threw for me recently.

Nicki Minaj talks about having an abortion

Nicki Minaj has admitted her abortion is the "hardest thing" she's gone through.

The 32-year-old rapper has opened up about her decision to have a termination when she was just a teenager in high school and admits it is a decision that has "haunted" her "all (her) life".

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, she said: "I thought I was going to die. I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I'd ever gone through."

Nicki moved from Trinidad and Tobago to New York as a child and went on to study at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts. It was while she was studying at the school that she fell pregnant and the father was older boy from Queens she was dating.

The Anaconda hitmaker knew at the time she couldn't go ahead with the pregnancy because she wasn't in a position to care for a baby properly.

She added: "It'd be contradictory if I said I wasn't pro-choice. I wasn't ready. I didn't have anything to offer a child."

Nicki, 32, has used her music to express her feelings about the abortion, touching on what happened on the track Autobiography, from her 2008 mixtape Sucka Free, and on her single All Things Go - which features on her latest album The Pinkprint.

In All Things Go she raps about her wishes for her younger brother Micaiah 'Caiah' Maraj and wonders what her child would have been like.

In the lyrics, Nicki - whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj - rhymes: "I want Caiah to go to college, just to say we did it. My child with Aaron would have been 16 any minute / so in some ways I feel like Caiah is the both of them / It's like he's Caiah's little angel, looking over him."

Dating is weird says Khloé Kardashian

Khloé Kardashian thinks dating "is so weird."

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, who filed for divorce from her estranged husband, Lamar Odom, in December 2013 and ended her on-again, off-again relationship with rapper French Montana earlier this month, admits she's still adjusting to being single and doesn't want to rush into another romance.

The reality TV beauty, who celebrated her 30th birthday last June, said: "By the time I hit that age I thought I would have kids and still be married. But because that's not the way it went, you can't sit in a ball and cry.

I had a husband, so I think there's an adjustment period, which I don't want to rush. Dating is so weird."
But Khloé hopes to find long-lasting love again.

She told the February issue of British Cosmopolitan magazine: "I don't crave sex. I talked about it more openly when I was married because it's more comfortable. I crave companionship, I just want to cuddle. I got married at 25 -- I was young, but I loved it. I do like it when you save certain things for your marriage.

Check out Khloe's Cosmopolitan magazine cover as shared by her on Instagram:

I don't think you should treat every guy you're dating like your husband. It doesn't make it special.''

The star moved into a new house with her brother, Rob Kardashian, in Hidden Hills, California earlier this year and finally feels happy again.

She said: "I moved into my new house, which is the first time I've owned a home on my own. It's a big step and my brother lives with me -- I'm so happy about that."

Guess where Kanye wants to be on Xmas!

Los Angeles - Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West are reportedly arguing over where to spend Christmas.

The 37-year-old rapper, who married the reality TV star in Florence, Italy last May, wants them to celebrate their first festive season as newlyweds alone with their 18-month-old daughter, North, in Paris, but the Keeping Up with the Kardashiansbeauty is eager to stay at her mother Kris Jenner's home in Los Angeles.

A source said: "Even though Christmas is a time for family, Kanye doesn't want to spend the holiday with Kim's family at Kris' house.

Kris always has a huge party on Christmas Eve, and Kanye just isn't feeling it this year. He wants to go to
Paris with Kim and North. This would allow him to spend time with them, and also work.

"But Kim absolutely refuses to even consider spending Christmas in Paris."

The 34-year-old star is especially keen to stay in LA as her older sister Kourtney recently gave birth to her third child.

The insider told gossip website RadarOnline.com: "She has said there will be no way North would be away from the cousins."

Kim is also furious with Kanye after he allegedly left her and North at a Disney on Ice event recently.

The source said: "Kanye bailed after thirty minutes because he had work commitments, including finishing work on the upcoming documentary about his Yeezus concert tour. Kim was absolutely furious with Kanye for leaving after only such a short time."

Johnny Depp to marry on private island

Los Angeles - Johnny Depp has invited a host of his famous friends to spend New Year's Eve with him in the Bahamas.

The 51-year-old actor has sent out invitations to many of his closest pals, including Steven Tyler, Marilyn Manson and Helena Bonham Carter and her partner Tim Burton, to ring in 2015 with him and his fiancée Amber Heard on his private island in the Caribbean.

The usually low-key star's bash held at Amber Beach, which he named after his partner  has sparked speculation among his guests that the party may in fact turn into a surprise wedding between Johnny and Amber, 28.

A source told The Sun newspaper: ''Johnny is normally very low key, so the big New Year party came as a surprise. He's invited most of his closest friends and their families to join him on his island. The highlight will be a big party.

''It could be a straightforward bash but friends have wondered if it could be a ruse to have a wedding without a big fuss.''

The couple always intended to tie the knot at Amber Beach, but no definite date has ever been set.

Johnny and Amber confirmed their engagement in January after less than two years of dating and threw a party to celebrate their betrothal in March.

The Lone Ranger star was previously in a long-term relationship with Vanessa Paradis, with whom he has two children, daughter Lily-Rose, 15, and son Jack, 12.

Elton John weds partner of 21 years as stars look on

Windsor - British pop superstar Elton John married long-time partner David Furnish in Windsor on Sunday, the ninth anniversary of their civil partnership, with David Beckham and actor Hugh Grant among the guests.
The 67-year-old singer posted a picture on photo-sharing website Instagram of himself and Furnish in blue suits brandishing a pen as they signed a form.
"That's the legal bit done. Now on to the ceremony!" said the caption.
A fleet of luxury cars whisked the A-list guests through the gates of the couple's estate in Windsor, west of London, close to the castle where Queen Elizabeth II spends much of her time.
Former footballer Beckham arrived with his children and wife Victoria while comedian David Walliams was spotted with model wife Lara Stone.
Notting Hill star Hugh Grant made an eye-catching entrance in a Ferrari, with all guests arriving between 12:00 and 13:00 local time (12:00-13:00 GMT).
The Rocket Man musician earlier posted a picture of an invitation on his Instagram page, with the words "Sir Elton John and David Furnish request the pleasure of your company to celebrate their wedding on Sunday the 21st December" written on a background of red roses.

It was among the first posts to his newly opened Instagram account.
Other pictures show a view of the couple's estate under the words "Good morning! Nice day for a wedding," and the couple's three-year-old son Zachary holding a teddy bear while they exchange vows.
Both Zachary and the couple's other son, Elijah, 23 months, were ring bearers.
The photographs showed at least 50 guests - reported to include Ed Sheeran, Elizabeth Hurley and Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne - sat in what appeared to be the estate's gallery, in front of art works thought to be by Gilbert & George and Damien Hirst.
Guest Brooklyn Beckham, eldest son of David and Victoria, later posted a photograph of the wedding lunch menu, which included a wild mushroom soup and truffle cream starter followed by beef short rib and caramelised onion pie with roasted potatoes and parsnips in horseradish butter.
Dessert was warm chocolate pudding and vanilla ice cream with wedding cake to follow.
Singer 'proud of British law'
The singer voiced pride that England and Wales began allowing same-sex marriage in March. Scotland followed suit last week.
John and Furnish - who divide their time between England, Beverly Hills, Atlanta, Venice and Nice in the south of France - entered a civil partnership soon after the institution began in Britain in 2005 and have now been together for 21 years.
"I'm very proud of Britain and the laws that we've seen come into existence since we've been together," John told US TV network NBC in March.
"Having our civil partnership was an incredible breakthrough for people that have campaigned for a long time - through the '60s and the '50s in England when it was so hard to be gay and hard to be open about it. And it was a criminal act.
"So for this legislation [gay marriage] to come through is joyous, and we should celebrate it. We shouldn't just say, 'Oh, well we have a civil partnership. We're not going to bother to get married.' We will get married," he said.
The 2005 celebration was a much grander affair, with 650 guests invited.
"Sir Elton", who was knighted in 1998, was ranked number four in the most recent Sunday Times newspaper Rich List of British and Irish musicians, with a personal wealth estimated at £240m.
Early in his career, John hid his sexuality and married a woman. He later became an advocate for gay rights and has been active in the fight against Aids.

This is what Kourtney and Scott named their baby boy

Los Angeles - Kourtney Kardashian has named her third child Reign Aston Disick.

The reality TV star gave birth to the latest member of her family on 14 December  and there has been much speculation surrounding the name of her baby boy ever since.

But Kourtney, 35, has ended the rumours by confirming the baby's name on Instagram.

She wrote: ''Madly in love with my little Reign Aston Disick.''

Reign's name is English in origin and means sovereign or ruler, but it remains to be seen whether the decision of Kourtney and her partner Scott Disick leads to it becoming more popular among the US public, as was the case with their eldest son Mason, who was born exactly five years earlier.

The couple also have a two-year-old daughter, Penelope Scotland Disick.

In a recent interview, Kourtney admitted that she enjoys the feeling of being pregnant and is happy to embrace her fuller figure.

She explained: ''I love being pregnant in general. This time I'm more tired than I was the other times.

''I think it's because I'm always running around and working on different things. But I feel comfortable with how I look and feel. I find a pregnant body to be beautiful and an incredible reminder of what a woman's body is made to do.''

Oh Tiwa Savage, someone has got a message for you!

Written by Adedayo Ademuwagun
Married people all over the world are expected to behave with some degree of propriety, unless perhaps they’re Kim Kardashian — or Tiwa Savage.
People have been talking about Tiwa Savage’s style before and after she got married. The latest one happened last week after the singer twerked (again), rubbing herself on artiste, Patoranking at the Headies night.
http://scontent-b-ams.cdninstagram.com/hphotos-xaf1/t51.2885-15/10864774_1535419883371899_521051918_n.jpg
It wasn’t the first time she’d be twerking on the young man – she did at the Channel O Awards in November when they both performed their collaborative effort, Girly O together. Then two months before, she performed at a gig in London wearing a bodysuit that many thought was plainly preposterous.
One entertainment blogger wrote after pictures from the London gig spread on blogs, “The diva is no doubt channelling her inner sexiness, but the pretty Mavin first lady has been serving constant sultriness almost to a point of obscenity these days! The rather obscene look [at the London gig] appeared tacky and did absolutely nothing for Tiwa’s shape.”
There’s no crime if an artiste is making news for twerking and “channelling her inner sexiness”, as that blogger put it. After all, Miley Cyrus and some others do that. But the thing is, Tiwa Savage is a dozen years older than Miley, and unlike Miley, she’s married.
Tiwa Savage didn’t start like this though. She already had an impressive beginning when she set up her music career in Lagos four years ago. She had done pretty well at X Factor UK, co-written internationally acclaimed songs, backed up for Mary J. Blige and George Michael and graduated from Berklee, a music school whose alumni have won a combined 229 Grammy awards. So she wasn’t just a pretty face with a sexy body. She was a talented singer with a lot of potential, and fans wanted to listen to her music, not look at her butt.
Today she’s grown famous and done really well for herself, but she’s also transformed herself from a promising singer to a sex symbol, building her brand on her erotic appeal rather than her singing ability.
The result is quite obvious. She’s produced only one album in four years. She hasn’t produced a single major hit without Don Jazzy ever. She may be getting awards, but considering the inspiring impression she made when she first surfaced, it looks like Tiwa Savage is not living up to her potential.
Patricia says, “Tiwa doesn’t have to bare her body to get to the top. She can sing, and she’s very likable. I feel she really needs to take another look at her brand and think about if all these years of scanty dressing and erotic gestures have actually paid off for her big time. Let’s face it. She’s not making any great music these days.”
Tiwa Savage is now 34 years old and she’s getting past her prime. Plus she seems to be in the middle of a torrid marriage.
Two months ago, news broke that she and her husband were fighting about cheating and physical abuse. It looked like the marriage was in trouble. A lot of people are appalled by the Tiwa Savage’s  style since she married, and some people feel it’s not helping her marriage.
Ovie says, “Tiwa Savage was like this before she married Teebillz, but the surprising thing is that she’s been even more immodest as a married woman. I don’t see how this is not affecting her marriage. I mean I imagine that I’m Teebillz and I’m sitting in a hall watching my wife, not my girlfriend, my wife, dancing carelessly with another man in front of the public. Any sane husband who really cares about their marriage and his wife’s dignity will certainly object to that. I don’t know why Tiwa is doing all this or why her husband isn’t saying a word about it. Does her husband truly love her? I don’t know, but I guess we all know what it means to love someone.”
