LBN# DON'T JUST GET MAD, GET A LAWYER.

I know some of us must have seen the above topic in stickers or even heard it. Especially on automobiles owned by lawyers. The topic of today is a very broad and open statement. Which makes it possible for several interpretations to deduced therefrom.

There are instance where we find ourselves as landlords or caretakers of a property, for example and where we have a defaulting tenant we take the laws into our hands because we are unhappy with the said tenant. There are instance also where people who have been cheated or defrauded by others rush to the wrong authorities or agencies with the hope to get justice (jungle justice). There are several examples but I believe these gaps can be filled by you.

Take a scenerio where someone has collected or transacted business with you and he or she has failed or refused to pay you. Many people think the quickest and effective mode of getting redress is by engaging the police or in some cases those that are connected get the military or SSS to do the job for them. Agreed that the current justice system as practiced in Nigeria today is slow, but I can beat my chest to the fact that most of these self help and jungle justice approach to addressing conflicts in the society as adopted by most people in Nigeria today, is uncivilized and yields less results. Furthermore, take note that the above mentioned organizations are not debt recovery agents. So please refuse such temptations so that you don't get sued by the person you are trying to deal with.

When you have any problem, there is a legal side to it all like I have always said. Get a lawyer to advice you and don't just get mad. Some people have found themselves in even more trouble than they tried to solve without the help of a lawyer. Have faith in the skill of a lawyer today and get that problem resolved once and for all.

US marines Locate Abducted girls, arrest boko haram chief

Sources told saturday vanguard in Abuja that Special Forces of the United States Marines have reportedly sighted the 230 female students abducted by Boko Haram terrorists from the Government Girls’ Secondary School, GGSS, Chibok, Borno State.

The girls who were abducted on April 14, were part of the 250 students boarded at the school for the West African School Certificate, WASC/ Senior Secondary School Certificate, SSSC, examinations, triggering world-wide condemnations.

Members of the United States Marines who are already in Maiduguri in fulfilment of the promise of President Barack Obama to assist Nigeria’s rescue efforts, were said to have located the girls inside the Sambisa forest, using some Satellite equipment which combed the forest.

One of the leaders of the terrorist group who participated in the abduction of the girls was also said to have been arrested by a combined team of the US Marines and Nigerian forces, through the use of an advanced interceptor equipment which was used to track the terrorist while exchanging information with his colleagues in Sambisa Forest about the movements of American and Nigerian soldiers in Maiduguri.

His phone was subsequently traced to a location in Maiduguri where he was arrested and handed over to the Nigerian military

LBN# WHY YOU ALSO NEED A LAWYER IN YOUR LIFE.

I know most people, especially in this part of the world have an impression that the only time the services of a lawyer is required is when there is a problem or dispute. To some people, the word lawyer is synonimous with trouble. I have met some people to whom I was introduced to as a lawyer and the remark I get almost instantly is that "they can now go and look for trouble".

Most of you reading especially from Nigeria may clearly understand what I am saying. This impression is however a wrong one to the extent that lawyers are not only needed when there is trouble. As a matter of fact, if the services of a lawyer is engaged before transactions are sealed or before negotiations are commenced, we would have less conflicts in our society today. The last assertion is however with the exception to criminal matters.

There would be an increased level of integrity among people because there would exist this consciousness ttat people are aware of their rights as human beings, as citizens and as business persons.

Just the way most of us have specific hospitals or dictors that we run to when we or any of our family members feel sick. Most of us refer to our banking officer when we have financial transactions to do. Most importantly, when it comes to our spiritual life, we have our pastor that we run to. Shokingly, in all the above memtioned relationships, there is a legal side to it all. When you go to see your doctor, there is legal side to it  when you open an account with a bank, there is a legal side to it. When you are building your house, their is legal side to it. When you walk into a supermarket to buy an item or do your shoppings, there is a legal side to it. Most importantly, when you enter into a business transaction, there is a legal side to all of it.

Unfortunately, most people, especially Nigerians only run to a lawyer when they are in trouble or that transaction has failed or they have been cheated. A complete case of medicine after death. Constantly consulting a lawyer before any financial or business endeavour, is very important for success.

A lawyer is like a close confidant. There is what we call lawyer and client confidentiallity which is an ethical aspect of the legal profession and lawyers do not take it forgranted. So you don't have to ask that question.

Start talking to a lawyer today before it gets too late.

Stay tuned for more daily legal tips.

Monica Lewinsky reacts to Beyoncé’s lyric

Well this is awkward!

Monica Lewinsky has re-acted to Beyoncé’s reference to her in the singer’s Partitionsong.

"He Monica Lewinsky'd all on my gown," Beyonce seductively sings in her hit song. But how does the woman behind the provocative lyric feel about being a line in one of Mrs. Carter's songs?

The lyric is, of course, in regards to Lewinsky's affair with President Bill Clinton when he was in office and she was a White House intern.

“Thanks, Beyonce, but if we're verbing, I think you meant 'Bill Clinton'd all on my gown,' not 'Monica Lewinsky'd,'” the 40-year-old told Vanity Fair magazine.

Kim and Kanye can't get married just yet

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West can't marry until they finalise their pre-nuptial agreement.

The couple were rumoured to have tied the knot in a secret ceremony at the weekend as their planned Paris nuptials later this month won't be legally binding, but insiders say they haven't yet got their documentation in order to carry out the official ceremony yet.

Kim and Kanye - who have 10-month-old daughter North together - are not set to sign the pre-nup until some time next week, but insiders told TMZ the delays are not because they can't agree on how to divide their assets in the event their marriage dissolves, but because there is so much to sort out.

And the paperwork is particularly complicated because the Bound 2 rapper recently changed management teams.

Kim recently slammed claims she and Kanye have already married, and also revealed that, unlike her doomed union with Kris Humphries - who she was married to for just 72 days in 2011 - the ceremony won't be shown on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

She tweeted: "Seeing so many different reports not gonna start disputing them all but a few I want to straighten out...

"1. We are not married yet!

"2. We are not filming our wedding for Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

"You will see everything leading up til and after!

"As much as we would love to share these memories on camera, we've decided to keep this close to our heart & share thru photos

"3. No guest list has been released. Seeing fake ones. Especially not 1600 people invited like I just read. Its VERY small & intimate (sic)".

It is believed the loved-up duo will be forced to legally wed in California before their romantic bash in Paris as French law requires a strict 40-day residency before they can get married in the country.

Flying Eagles shop for new boots in Tanzania

Flying Eagles went shopping for new boots ahead of the 2015 African Youth Championship qualifier against Tanzania on Sunday.
It has been raining for the past week in Dar es Salaam, but weather forecasts suggest it would be sunny on match day at the National Stadium.

But, so as not to take a risk, the team went shopping for new boots in readiness for any situation that may turn out on Sunday.

“The pitch is okay but should it rain, we would need to play with hard-stud boots,” said Kelechi Iheanacho, who led several other players like Izu Omego and Joshua Enaholo to shop for new boots Friday morning.

The return leg of the tie will be played in Nigeria.

Boko Haram bombs bridge linking Nigeria, Chad

Members of the Boko Haram have detonated an explosive that destroyed a highway bridge linking Nigeria and Chad, security sources and witnesses said.‬
‪Hundreds of heavy duty trucks plying the Chad-Nigeria highway along Gamboru-Ngala Local Government conveying commodities from the two countries are now left stranded on either sides of the bridge.‬
‪Though residents say small passenger cars could still make it to either sides as the frames of the old bridge are left hanging in bad shape, traders lament the economic loss they stand to suffer not being able to transport their wares in the nearest future.‬
‪”The Boko-Haram is gradually caging us if, the bridge is the only one that links Gamboru from the other side of Borno and Nigeria as a whole; it has been destroyed. We are in trouble,” said a trader whose shop was completely burnt during the Monday attack on Gamboru that left over 100 people dead.‬
‪An official of the Department of State Security, SSS, in Maiduguri who confirmed the incident said “only small cars can risk crossing over the bridge; any truck or heavily loaded vehicle would definitely go down”.‬
‪The officer who spoke off the record said the bridge was bombed on Monday when the Boko Haram gunmen were retreating from their attack on Gamboru Town.‬
‪”The bridge is located between Gamboru and Logomani villages; the bomb has seriously damaged it; they detonated it on the bridge when they were retreating from Gamboru town as a reinforcement of our troops engaged them in shoot out”.‬
‪Traders whose wares are now trapped on the sides of the bridge now pay more for small vehicles to help them get their wares off the heavy trucks, and across the bridge.‬
‪”It is not only very expensive,  but not every driver would want to spend an hour there because the Boko-Haram gunmen might strike any time in that desert route,” Bukar Awa’ana, a trader said.‬
‪He noted that even before the destruction of the bridge,  trade merchants had lost millions of naira as a result of attacks on commodity trucks.‬
‪”The roads are in bad shape and trucks have to drive very slowly for days to get into Nigeria or out to Chad, and in the process, they suffer serious attacks, our drivers are often killed and the vehicles burft with the goods in most cases”, lamented Mr. Awa’ana who travels between Nigeria and Chad for his business.
