Epic Tweet Fight between Linda Ikeji, Omojuwa, El-Rufai’s Son & Others

LINDA-OMOJUWA-COVER

Last night recorded an epic Twitter exchange between top Nigerian blogger, Linda Ikeji and another top Nigerian blogger, twitter activist and political commentator, Japheth Omojuwa.

Let me explain what started the fight. There has been talk about a widely circulated article that tried to link the recent spike in Boko Haramattack to the suspension of the CBN governor,Lamido Sanusi. The article was written by someone called Wendell Simlin.

The article was circulated to bloggers and journalists on Wednesday with the third party email address, wendellsimlin@yahoo.com, but an analysis of the document’s metadata later revealed that Reno Omokri, Special Assistant to the President on New Media authored it. PREMIUM TIMES and some other news media contacted Reno to get his own side of the story but he refused to respond.
This story was really hot and got the whole Nigerian online community buzzing. But guess what?

The queen of gossip and breaking news, did not carry this hot story on her blog.

LINDA-OMOJUWA-X
Naturally, it got people wondering why Linda would pass up such a juicy story. Just then Linda published a different article written by Reno (he used his real name this time…hehehe!) titled, Social Media in the Jonathanian Age.Linda said this on her blog before posting Reno’s article:
“Before you people start, let me explain. Lol. Yes I did see all your comments about me not getting involved in the ‘Wendell Simlin’ scandal. I didn’t write anything about it because it was an accusation which could be true or false and I just refused to be pressured. I decided to leave it alone until Mr Reno reacts to it but he never did… so…:-). Anyway, here’s another piece written by him…”
I have two words for that intro: LAME EXCUSE.
Most people also thought her excuse was lame including Omojuwa and one of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai‘s sons who uses the Twitter handle@HElrufai.
Now you can read the tweets…

Oops! Pope Francis uses the F-word during Sunday Blessing

Pope Francis is the centre of an unfortunate mistake.
While addressing millions at the Vatcian’s Apostolic Palace, the pontiff accidentally uttered the F word in Italian before quickly correcting himself.

He said the word “Cazzo” which means the f word, instead of “Caso” meaning example. But within seconds his mistake was posted on dozens of Italian media websites and YouTube and had gained millions of worldwide hits as it went viral.
The 77-year old Pope was speaking on a peaceful solution to the crisis in Ukraine.
“‘It is my wish that all the components of the country will endeavor to overcome misunderstandings and build together the future of the nation.
I make a heartfelt appeal to the international community to support every initiative on behalf of dialogue and harmony.
A heart full of longing for possession is a heart empty of God.
For this, Jesus many times chastised the rich because the risk for them to seek security in the wealth of this world is high.
In this (f-word), in this case the providence of God is made visible as gesture of solidarity.”

Lupita Nyong’o's 7 Important Lessons About Black Beauty (photos)

Pharell Happy 02
Whoop, Lupita Nyong,  31, won Oscars Best Supporting Actress award for her role as Patsy in the 12 years a slave movie.

On Friday, February 28th, 2014, mere hours before she snatched the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 12 Years A Slave, Lupita Nyong’o delivered a powerful speech on the power of black beauty at a luncheon for Black Women In Hollywood.

In the speech, Nyong’o took the opportunity to respond to a small part of a letter a fan wrote her about the beauty of being dark black:
“Dear Lupita, I think you’re really lucky to be this Black but yet this successful in Hollywood overnight. I was just about to buy Dencia’s Whitenicious cream to lighten my skin when you appeared on the world map and saved me.”

What stands out about the letter is, on the one hand, highlighting the challenge of being black in Hollywood and, moreover, being “this black.” Pause and let your self think for a moment about what “this black” even means, and what it’s like to receive a letter from a young girl who is basically trying to get rid of her own blackness.

I don’t need to rehearse the history of black skin lightening and hair straightening processes here, but what I do want to highlight is the importance of having a black actress who has thought so closely about the beauty of being dark black in predominantly white Hollywood.

So here’s how Lupita responded:
http://distilleryimage1.ak.instagram.com/65dea938a29311e3afe11207bfcce985_8.jpg

1. “I remember a time when I too felt unbeautiful. I put on the TV and only saw pale skin, I got teased and taunted about my night-shaded skin. And my one prayer to God, the miracle worker, was that I would wake up lighter-skinned.”
2. “And every day I experienced the same disappointment of being just as dark as I had been the day before. I tried to negotiate with God: I told him I would stop stealing sugar cubes at night if he gave me what I wanted; I would listen to my mother’s every word and never lose my school sweater again if he just made me a little lighter.”
3. “And then Alek Wek came on the international scene. A celebrated model, she was dark as night, she was on all of the runways and in every magazine and everyone was talking about how beautiful she was.”
4. “I couldn’t believe that people were embracing a woman who looked so much like me as beautiful. My complexion had always been an obstacle to overcome and all of a sudden, Oprah was telling me it wasn’t.”
5. “When I saw Alek (Wek) I inadvertently saw a reflection of myself that I could not deny. Now, I had a spring in my step because I felt more seen, more appreciated by the far away gatekeepers of beauty, but around me the preference for light skin prevailed.”
6. “What is fundamentally beautiful is compassion for yourself and for those around you. That kind of beauty enflames the heart and enchants the soul.”
7. “And so I hope that my presence on your screens and in the magazines may lead you, young girl, on a similar journey. That you will feel the validation of your external beauty but also get to the deeper business of being beautiful inside. There is no shade to that beauty.”

Steve Stout Confronted By 50 Cent At New York Knicks Game

According to hiphop-n-more, rapper 50 Cent recently confronted Steve Stout while the two happened to be at a New York Knicks game. A few photos were taken of the interaction and it’s obvious that 50 is less than pleased with Stout, probably due to his recent comments about the rapper’s lack of quality work in the past few years.
“He hasn’t had a hit in a really long time,” Stoute said. “I mean, he has not made anything musically that’s changed anything in a very long time. And I feel like he’s always like gearing up for something that never happens. Hopefully, now that he’s independent and there’s no record company to blame, his aggressive content can get on the air…I think he’s trying to get back, but those guys—you know, music is a great platform. If you’re an entrepreneur and you have a—you’re currently active making music. You’re currently active touching people with albums. That it makes it much easier for you to venture into business deals that will become successful using the music to parlay it to get it done. And without having any music that’s meaningful over the last—probably the last great song he’s made was ‘I Get Money’…Kanye’s put out three albums, four albums since then.”

Chris Brown Wants Rihanna Back After Bipolar Diagnosis

Chris Brown
Chris Brown seems to be trying his best to clean up the tarnished reputation the singer received when the world turned on him back in 2009. After the diagnosis that Chris Brown had bipolar disorder, among other things, he wants Rihanna back and just dumped on-again/off-again, girlfriend model Karreuche Tran to prove it. Rumor has it that the Next to You singer also stopped following the model on Twitter.
Ever since Brown physically abused Rihanna, news of their relationship’s ups and downs bothered many of her fans. It did nothing for his career, obviously, causing the bratty artist to complain that nobody likes him anymore. Rihanna must have fallen hook, line and sinker (again) for Brown’s whining because shortly after the two recorded the song Birthday Cake.
Brown had attended Rihanna’s 26th birthday bash on Feb.10; lots of RiRi’s family did not approve. And really, how can anyone blame them? When the Umbrellasinger first took him back after the attack, fans were outraged. Since the reunion at the party, Radar reported that the two have been constantly texting each other. No wonder Brown unfollowed Tran on Twitter; the fear of Rihanna cyber stalking him to check out just what girls he is conversing with seems real.
After all, that is what the horrible fight was about. It happened after a pre-party for the Grammys that the two were scheduled to appear. Rihanna had come across a text from another woman on Brown’s phone and the rest, as they say, is history. Needless to say, none of them did ever show up at the award ceremonies.
Brown recently appeared in court in Los Angeles at a hearing to review the Beautiful People vocalist’s probation. The judge had ordered Brown to remain in the rehab facility for the duration of the trial which was a full 90 days. Brown remained in the centre for an extra five days, however, for extra help to ensure the musician won’t relapse. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder II, Insomnia, and  PTSD, Chris Brown is hopeful his good behavior will get ex-girlfriend, Rihanna, back.
Tran does not seem to be bothered much by the songsters erratic behavior. The model was seen having a great time, on Thursday, at a pre-Oscars party for OK! Magazine.
A spokesperson from the rehab facility said that Brown was acting out and would become aggressive because of the musicians improper self-medicating and untreated mental disorder, post traumatic stress syndrome and severe sleep deprivation.  The spokesperson also said that the singer had done very well at the rehab and responded positively to treatment.
Brown must be grateful for the diagnosis, hoping that the news would somehow explain and wash away the fact that the singer exploded in a rage and started hitting on a girl. Fans for Rihanna are not that forgiving as the Disturbia songstress and will be following Browns behaviour very closely. Even the singer told Rolling Stone that Brown doesn’t have the luxury to screw up again and that, “That’s just not an option.”
Only time will tell how long this connection with the scrutinized couple will go and exactly just how far. As long as Brown stays on his meds, the outbursts of anger should remain at a bare minimum, hopefully. Getting a diagnosis of bipolar disorder could have been the best thing that happened to Chris Brown in a long time, especially now that he wants Rihanna back. The question: If Rihanna takes him back, is there something wrong with the sexy vocalist’s head, too?
