Lightning kills 7 students in Burundi .

Lightning in Burundi killed seven high school students and wounded 51 others when it struck a classroom where they were sheltering from a ferocious storm, officials said on Saturday.

"This was an exceptional disaster that hit not only our town, but also other areas of the country, when we should be in the dry season," said Prudence Kabura, a local government official in Nyanza-Lac, some 150km south of the capital Bujumbura, of the storm on Friday.

As many as 500 houses were also destroyed by the heavy rains, he added.

The tragedy follows a series of fatal lightning strikes in recent days.

Last week lightning killed four people and wounded nine others as they sheltered inside a small church in eastern Burundi, local official Egide Ndikuriyo said.

The following day, two people guarding a herd of cows were also struck by lightning, while houses and crops were damaged by the heavy rains, Ndikuriyo added, noting the unseasonal nature of the storms.

Tope Alabi finally opens up on her affair with Prophet Ajanaku

In a recent interview with PUNCH, Gospel singer Tope Alabi opened up on her affair with the late Prophet Ajanaku and her sweet husband. See excerpts below:
You used to do sound track of movies?

Oh yes. But I don’t really do it again. Why did you stop?I didn’t stop because it is secular. I don’t always have the time to watch the movies before I do the sound track. I just discovered that I was being given all kinds of movies. I would just be told the title and a little synopsis of the movie and I would do the sound track. Then when I do the sound track, it would be different from what the movie is talking about. I have now told producers that I have to watch the movie before I do the sound track. What it means is that I would be forced to reduce the number of movies I compose the sound track. My sound track should not be different from what I preach for. I can’t compose sound track for movies that the major story line is on herbalists. I can’t praise herbalists. I will be a rebellious child.Your husband has been supportive; he is even your manager…He is no longer my manager. I have a new manager. He is the marketer now. He is my boyfriend and the father of my children. He is the small boy in the house that must eat first even if no other person has eaten.

But most men don’t want their wives to be in the spotlight, how come he supports you like this?

I just thank God for his life. You can imagine, when we go for programmes, I would be given a seat in the front row while my husband would be given a seat at the back. Imagine! I would always tell him to come and sit in front so I can go to the back but he would never agree. He would ask me if he was Tope Alabi. God has been guiding us.

How would I have managed without a husband like this?

Where did you meet him?I met him in the studio. He was a studio rat. He worked anywhere in the studio. He never went out of the studio. He was such a tiny man when we met. But see him now, I have packaged him. He has also packaged me as well. I am more beautiful now. We met 19 years ago. We got married five years after.

The issue you had with the late Pastor Ajanaku, did you ever make up before he died?

On that issue, I would rather say no comment. When God is working in your life, anything can happen along the line. The Israelites faced turbulence and eventually got out of it. We need people who are spirit-filled to just fold their arms and watch what God will do.Some people say you are happy he is no more…God doesn’t like anybody who rejoices over a friend or enemy’s death. I cannot be an enemy of what God created. I can only be an enemy of God’s enemy. If you don’t like God, certainly, I will not like you. But I still say no comment on that issue.Does it mean you will not tell us what really caused the problem between you two?No comment. I just want people to say what they want to say. You are free. Your heart is not in my heart. People can speculate. People can feel whatever they want to feel. But we learnt he anointed another singer as his spiritual child and it got you so upset…I wasn’t there. I don’t know. So if I wasn’t there, how would I now ‘put mouth’ in something I don’t know about? I can’t say what I don’t know. But did you feel bad that they said he had replaced you, even if you weren’t there, you must have heard it?I cannot feel bad. I didn’t feel bad. I can bring somebody today and I decide to bring that person up. Anybody is free to do whatever he/she feels like doing. We learnt you also stopped attending his church…Actually, I was never a member of his church but people don’t know this. I am just a woman who loves to help ministries. I go to the church and I give money, not small money. I can work for six months and I take my tithe to him just to bless his ministry. I do that in other ministries. I can minister in churches without collecting money. I know what I have passed through. I know where I am coming from. I want to bless God and thank Him. The first day I ministered in his church, he gave me money but I didn’t collect it. I never collected money from him in my life, but I have donated millions to his church and so many other churches. I have so many people living in my house that I don’t even know their parents; and I just help them. I pay their fees. My husband helps the widows, we donate to orphanages. We just want to help.

Freeze mocks Nigeria celebrities, claims they all use fake stuffs

Popular radio host, Ifedayo Olarinde popularly known as Freeze,  has disclosed that many Nigerian celebrities wear fake stuffs.

"First thing first, for all the entertainers putting up pictures of their accessories on Instagram, can they please tweet the receipt from an authorised dealer. Trust me, I have seen too many celebs wear fake stuffs. You can tell that they don’t know what they are wearing. Of course, there are a few brand names like D’banj, Don Jazzy, P-Square or Wizkid that would not wear fake. I have seen them wear good watches.

But there are some other people who I have seen wear funny looking pieces. There was one particular musician that I saw wearing a Rolex and the gold was fading.Rolex never uses gold plates, they use pure gold. If you see anything gold on a Rolex, it is pure gold. When I saw that, I was disappointed at the musician, especially because of the level of respect I had for the musician. There is no such thing like buying a Rolex with a credit card. You can’t buy a Rolex with a credit card; who are you? Diddy? For you to be able to walk away with a £20,000 watch, you would have a substantial amount of money in that card."
He told Punch in a recent interview

Kim Kardashian 'not classy' enough for Palace of Versailles wedding

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were reportedly "not classy" enough to get married at the Palace of Versailles. The reality TV star, 33, and her rapper fiancé, 36 - who got engaged in October - were keen to hold their wedding at the royal château in France, but their request was firmly declined because officials believed the couple were too glitzy for the French landmark.

However, despite having their multi-million-pound offer rejected, the pair - who have seven-month-old daughter North together - still paid a visit to the luxury venue during a break to Paris over the weekend in the hope of winning the approval of directors while face-to-face.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "Kim and Kanye really wanted to get married at Versailles and were hoping to persuade officials during their visit."But ultimately it backfired. It was still a firm no. They will now be scouting private estates and chateaux in the region."A number of rooms within the mansion can be hired for up to 600 people and was once used by the former French president Nicolas Sarkozy for his marriage to Carla Bruni, as well as by Syrian billionaire Wafic Said, who paid a staggering £84 000 to hold his daughter's nuptials at the venue in 2012.

However, it was suggested earlier this week that officials refused Kim and Kanye's request to wed there because they were concerned about the disruption the nuptials could cause.

Bayelsa students protest hike in fees

Students of the newly established Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa, on Thursday paralysed the activities at the institution following a protest against alleged increase in school fees.

The students, who barricaded roads leading to the Otuoke Community and the institution, described the increase in the school fees from N55 000 to N85 000 as unacceptable. The protest also led to the closure of some business outlets in the area.

One of the students, Christy Asuen, said the increase in the tuition fees was not commensurate with the facilities available.
"We are studying under very tedious conditions. We don't have power and water, most of us buy water and contribute money to buy power generating set," she said.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, however, denied the increase."The truth is that we have not increased the school fees of the university," he said, explaining that the fees advertised by the university during its admission were still the ones being paid.He said the fees were charged according to the three sets of students that had so far gained admissions into the school.

Aluko said the pioneer students were already in their first semester year two, while the second set were in their second semester year one.He said the flood that ravaged the state in 2012 affected the academic calendar of the university.

According to him, the students, who are in their first academic year second semester, have all paid these fees.Aluko said what they mean by increase in fees was that the pioneer and non-pioneer students pay different fee schedule."So there is no increase in fees. We have the pioneer set of students.

We have the second set of students and we have the third set of students."When the pioneers came in, their fees were N45 000 for tuition and accommodation."By the end of their first year before this second set came in, we increased it to N50 000, but separated the accommodation fees from it."It is for pioneer students and they will pay that till they graduate.

The second set of students, Humanities and Social Sciences, paid N72 000 and science students will pay N80 000."Of the fees, N16 000 of it was for acceptance fees; I.D cards fees, paid only once."After the first year, they will be paying N50 000 for humanities and social sciences and N58 000 for science students," he explained. -  NAN
